Must say the steaks I had (two) where nothing special really, and they could do with spending some euros rather than bringing a cooked steak out on a cold cheap chopping board.Too many chips as they take away the thickness of the steak.More salad less chips.

Great rooms, lovely restaurant (and good value). I stayed for a long weekend. The room was fantastic for the price (good little kitchen, spotless and comfy bedroom and large bathroom). Had dinner for 6 on the restaurant terrace - my Black Pudding and Liverwurst starter was superb. Service efficient and friendly. Suggest booking for dinner at weekends as it is not a big restaurant.

The perfect place too enjoy fresh and regional German Food and selected Wines from the Terrassenmosel on our beautiful terrace with an great view on the Mosel.
Apparently only opened in July 2014 by a couple of young entrepreneurs, we found ourselves on their terrace in May on a nice warm evening. Kids found their way immediately to a room where they could lend some games and toys while we enjoyed the friendly service. Classic German menu, but with a clear focus on regional ingredients, I like that. The result was as classic, but of good quality making us all happy once again. All in all a good place to go to. Thank you for the loving words :-).There is a small mistake, the restaurant is only since July 2017 in our possession. In 2014 it was still managed by family Lehmler.

The restaurant is placed in an historic castle mill from the 11th century. "Alte Mühle" Thomas Höreth is located in a sunny side valley of the Moselle. Steep terraced vineyards reach close to the mill. Pilgrims used to eat here in ancient times when they

Alken is a pretty town with several restaurants to choose from, and we enjoyed a tasty mixed grill with good portions of meat in an excellent sauce. The only thing that let it down was the salad which was a bit wilted. I'd still recommend it for value and location, and I'd eat there again.

We were on a coach trip to Germany for the Christmas Markets and one of the excursions was to Alken Mosel. This trip was mainly for a wine tasting visit, we don't drink much wine so we didn't participate, instead we had a walk around the town. It was quite a chilly day so we popped in for a coffee and cake at the Burg Cafe, a MUCH BETTER choice than the wine tasting. As with ALL German "Backerei" (Bakers) their choice and quality of cakes is second to none, as was their selection of chocolates (of which we purchased LOADS !!!)This is a very large restaurant because I think it forms part of the dining facilities for the ajoining hotel. We were greeted by a very helpful fellow, who escorted us to our table where we decided on and was served our refreshments, these being excellent. There is a road running along side the Mosel and the Burg Cafe is on the other side of the road, so in the summer you could sit outside and view the river very easily. If you visit Alken, this is a must visit !!

This is our favorite hotel out of dozens we have visited in Europe in recent years. Philip and Corinna Zimmerman are the perfect hosts. They are young, enthusiastic, friendly, welcoming and offer perfect service. The restaurant is lovely with three types of seating areas - riverside terrace, old Germanic style or conservatory. The decor is lovely with tasteful displays of articles table decorations. The menu is varied, reflects local specialities and the quality of food is excellent. Service is efficient and friendly. The extensive wine list includes local varieties and of quality. Food prices are very reasonable and good value for money. This is an 'apartment hotel' which allows self catering or accommodation linked to the restaurant. There is no breakfast but nearby cafe provides at reasonable cost or one can obtain fresh bread and foods at shop and bakery 150 metres away. There are several apartments of various sizes and facilities. They have separate bedrooms, kitchen areas, lounges and bathrooms. All have a terrace or balcony with views of the River Mosel and the vineyards. The rooms are very clean, tastefully decorated with lovely, classy touches and very comfortable. Prices are very fair for the quality of accommodation. Good private parking and good wifi.

Sat down here at 8pm on a Saturday evening. It was quite busy. It was difficult to get attention, you had to chase a waitress rather than them coming to you.Ordered drinks, starter and main course. Drinks came fairly quickly. Starter arrived at 8.30pm. Then we sat until 9.30pm with no food. We were sat next to a group of 4. The 1st diner had finished his meal before the 4th diner had got their food. At 9.30 I asked where the food was and I was told 'We only have a small kitchen'. I don't class myself as a business genius but the obvious answer is have less tables. Waitresses seem to be coming out with just one plate at a time.At 9.40 after waiting 1 hour 10 minutes for my meal, I paid for my drinks and left.Wild horses wouldn't drag me back there.
