This restaurant was voted our family favourite during a two week holiday in Germany, when we ate out every day. The food was good; well cooked and nicely presented, the service was excellent. I mark it down slightly on atmosphere as we visited on a Sunday when all the shops are closed and the restaurant, like the town itself, was pretty quiet. The menu is not especially adventurous but it made a delightful change from the very meat-heavy menus of a lot of places in Germany.

We cycled into Remagen from Bonn looking for a good, quick lunch and found just what we wanted. Beers with sausages and great salads hit the spot and we were soon on our way again.

Can you judge a café on just a cup of coffee? Well, you can judge it on its coffee, the service, the ambiance and cleanliness. My wife and I dropped by at the Makt in this very pretty town of Linz am Rhein in April. Not a tourist in sight (except us!). It wasn't warm enough to sit out in the square but inside the café was clean (and so, too, the toilets) and the ambiance pleasant. Most of all the service was excellent. The coffee was good, too. So long, das Team vom Markt - Café

I have eaten at many of the best restaurants in the world, as judged by Michelin, Pelligrino, Zagat etc and sought this one out because of a recommendation from a trusted food journalist friend.I have to say that, whilst the service was sometimes a bit under-polished (I think we had a new waiter who was still getting to grips with the place) the food was mind-bogglingly, palate-orgasmically great. The flavour combinations, quality of ingredients and craftsmanship were flawless. It was artistry which elevated our group to that rare elevated state of mind, knowing one has just had their senses tantalisingly blown open and irrevocably changed. I would go so far to say that this was one of the top two meals I have ever eaten. Anywhere, ever. I am amazed that this place doesn't feature on more of the world's best restaurant lists, and can only attribute this to the fact that it is not so easy to find, in an out-of-the way small and unassuming part of the world. We went the next day to the smaller restaurant run by the same couple, which serves more traditional German food, and it too was superb. But if you are travelling to Germany and live for great food, don't miss the experience of eating at the 'Zur Alten Post' fine diner... It has set a new benchmark for my fussy, particular and usually harshly critical self!

We've been to the restaurant a number of times, mostly for family dinners and we've never been disappointed. The restaurant serves modern German cuisine and they go through a lot of effort with their specials (which are always around seasonal products, such as white asparagus in spring, duck in the winter etc.). They also have some "themed menues" during the week at very reasonable prices and often do regional promotions (such as Norwegian dishes - e.g. the elk and lobster are to die for - or fish buffets). I feel the restaurant is excellent value for money (e.g. typically a 3 course dinner incl. drinks would be under EUR 50 p.P.). The food is very tasty and the service always nice and friendly. We can highly recommend the restaurant and will definitely be back!

We went to my husband to have a great dinner on our 1. Wedding annaversary.but we weren't delighted.the staff was friendly but they were so young, without experience.i ordered garnelen in cream sauce.it was 9 euros and i got 4 pieces of garnelen.the sauce was not jummy and it was instant.my husband ordered csevap (have to be 3 different meat) instead of 3 meat it was made by minced pork.was not good taste.my turkey salad was ok but nothing special.we spend more 60 euros for nothing.i was fustrated.only one positiv :terace next to the Rhine side.beatiful view.Next time we will choos an other restaurant.for example Anker!

Let me say upfront that this restaurant is quoted 2 diamonds out of 5 in the Varta restaurant guide. So we went with high expectations. Should at least have been Michelin BIB quality?Outside a nice mansion-like house, nice lighting, terrace etc.Cosy interior, cuddily heated ..... warm welcome. Breathes the air of a gourmet temple.Other than "à la carte", the card showed one, three course menu at 28â¬. Ok, not expensive, but since the map showed very traditional plates too, apparantly not different from the ones on the menu, I thought: "hmm, let's see what they can do for this amount". And so, we took it. But it appeared they could not do much.First, came 2 kinds of bread and 3 different spreads on the side, nice. Then, for first course, a fresh salad accompagnied amongst other things, by raw quartered tomatoes, lukewarm asparagus and strawberrys. It felt like back in the 80ties. Nouvelle cuisine, you still know?Main, a so called mediterranean braised lam leg, with green beans, braised tomatoe, an indifferent sauce, probably thickened with starch and some gratiné potatoes. Then a vanilla panacotta with strawberry and rubarb sauce.Well, honestly, these 3 courses were not more than just correct home cooking. I can do better at my home and I'm not a chef.Coffee and thea, were accompagnied by 1 minuscule biscuit.Ok, I admit, what can you expect for 28â¬?Still, I would gladly have spent some more for a more elaborate meal. Is Varta is to blame? Or is the crisis so big in Germany .....? Or was the chef out of inspiration? And also IMHO, houses like this one should not downsize on the quality and offer meals at a lower price in the hope to attract more customers. First they will scare away the real gourmets. And secondly, the other eaters will not come either, since they will not go to a gourmet institute anyway. Proof: other than us, there was nobody in the restaurant.Almost forgot: nice winelist, mostly German, but also a very well thought choice of French and Italian ones. It starts at 24â¬, but can also be taken by the glass.
