The Gutsausschank Spindler was founded in 1933 by Heinrich Spindler opened as a tavern to pour out the estate's wine. After generations Josef (1904) and Johanna (1955) exceeded 80 years later, the great-grandson Florian (1982) on the training and years of
Steps from the residence of a family friend who goes back 4 generations, this is where she took us for our special dinner in Forst. Everyone knows everyone and you feel right at home. The menu is in German -- no translations -- although the young proprietor (son of founder) spoke very good English. Their own wines are great -- why go off piste with outside wines? This is a real gem. No idea how much it cost -- our friend hosted -- but it all seemed reasonable.

Urgestein is on a good way to earn michelin star(s) in the near future. The food is certainly up there. Although my companions found the tastes too intensive, which I did not. There is a lot of potential left in service. First, pauses between dishes of degustation menu were a bit long. There seems to be a shortage of staff in both waiters and kitchen department. And then, some dishes were served to incorrect person a couple of times. Urgestein seems to take the new direction of german cuisine, with lots of ingredients in each dish and great complexity. Similar to 3-star Victor´s gourmet in Schloss Berg, which we visited the next day. All in all, it was fine experience.

My husband and I had a very pleasant evening at Spinne in late October. The setting is in a most attractive cellar-like room. Our server was friendly and helpful. We had some of the seasonal specialities and they were really delicious, including a fresh "stone" mushroom pasta and a roasted fish on a vegetable melange that included parsley root (a vegetable new to me). We enjoyed one of the Christmann wines from vineyards in the village. This was our best meal on a 4-day visit to Germany!

This place offers the regular local cuisine but also several nice salads and other (vegetarian) dishes, and daily specials. Always good quality! The wine list is representative of the area with several excellent choices. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and the meals arrived swiftly whenever we went there to have dinner. The prices are quite reasonable as compared to other places in Deidesheim -a touristic town, where you can also find several places that tend to overcharge a bit...The locals are naturally aware of this fact and come here rather often, hence it is better to reserve a table in advance!

The name for the region in which Deidesheim is located is der Pfalz (âthe Palatinate,â from the Latin word palatium, meaning âpalaceâ), referencing the period in Germany history during which it was ruled over by a prince of Holy Roman Empire. The Pfalz is known for two dishes: Saumagen (âsowâs stomachâ) and Leberknodel (âliver dumplingâ). While the former may not sound particularly appetizing, it has been enjoyed by the many heads of state German Chancellor Helmut Kohl brought to Deidesheim. The latter is kind of like a meatball made from pork. The restaurant Leopold at Weingut von Winning, also in the Michelin Guide, serves a dish it calls âPfalz Trilogyâ (a plate of house-made Bratwurst and Leberknodel along with Saumagen made by a town butcher, all complemented by Riesling sauerkraut and mashed potatoes) for less than 17 Euros. Itâs what I ordered and it was fabulous!

We had fish, the local speciality Schweinsmagen and kraut. It was well prepared but not better than that. The fine dining from the sister restaurant did not shine to the secondary restaurant.

My wife and I stayed here during a one-day visit to Holiday Park. It was a wonderful splurge, outside our usual budget, but wow was it worth it. Beautiful place, lovely room, gorgeous woodsy grounds to take walks on, and some of the best food we had anywhere during our month-long trip across Europe. Can't wait to come back here some day.

BEST BEST RESTAURANT! Was there in 1989-1991Great wait staff. Especially the young man, and I think his sister. I adored her. Great family restaurant. Will be back in 2014 for a visit and will definitely make this place a priority. Amalfi salad (no onions) know how to speak it. Can't spell it. Lol. Must go!

This restaurant serves local dishes and international cuisine. I particularlyl like their fish dishes but even the meat dishes ans salads are very good. I have been here many times and was never disappointed. Service is very friendly, just at times it can get crowded with many unexpected guests, and then it may get a bit slow. From Spring to early Autumn, their large nice terrace is open, and it is also possible just to stop foir a dring on a bicycle tour. The quality of the food, and unfortunately, also the prices, are above average. They have an excellent selection of local wines, whch do not come cheap, either, as compared with other restarants in the area (ca. 4,70-7,00 ⬠per 0.25l) . But it is worthwhile to come and try it out. The place is sometimes closed to the public because of wedding or birthday parties, and can be busy on Sunday for lunch, so better call ahead. The owners also have a catering business in case you want to hire them for a party..
