Home to one of the world's most active volcanoes, snow-capped Piton de Fournaise, Reunion is a little known gem. This rocky, French-governed island off the coast of East Africa is easily explored by Les Cars Jaunes, yellow buses that link main settlements. The road into the mountains provides breathtaking scenery. Bike tours on rough back roads are an option for the brave and the extremely fit. Beyond the reach of cars, untamed village Cirque de Mafate shows the island's wildest side.

Great location, very nice atmosphere, fine dinner and ok bed. But this place is very riskyvfor covid: they dont check the "pass sanitaire" and they let everyone (24 people) in the same small room during dinner without any ventilation (no open window). We were many people qt the table very uncomfortable with the situation. I will not go back...

A really lovely gite in a stunning location. We were welcomed warmly after our day's hike and shown to our gite- we were very pleasantly surprised! Big room and bathroom, lovely decor, very clean and comfortable. Dinner was very good - a salad to start then rice, lentils, and a meat dish followed by banana cake. There was also copious rum to accompany dinner (included). We spent a very pleasant evening chatting to the other guests and eating. After going outside to look at the stars (very visible from this location) we had a good night's sleep. Breakfast was bread, butter, jam, hot drinks and orange juice. Would highly recommend staying here.

Would highly recommend staying here. The host was very welcoming and friendly, the food was lovely (a vegetable starter followed by lentils and a meat dish so fine for veggies and vegans) and location is stunning. We had a double room which was nice. Didn't see the dorm but it looked fine. There was hot water for showers and drinking water. We had a very pleasant evening here chatting to the other guests and drinking rum, which I should have mentioned is included in the meal. Breakfast was bread, butter, jam, hot drinks and orange juice. All in all a good experience.

Adding to the other positive reviews, our family from the USA hiking the GR-R2 very much enjoyed our stay at Gite Fleur des Orangers. The four-bed dorm and double room were clean and comfortable, nice bathrooms and showers, delicious food, and a warm welcome from Daniela. One of our favorite stops on the 10-day trek. Highly recommended!

Very nice place right after you come down from the pass. Run by the César family. The owner is very nice and speaks good English. The family has been staying in Mafate for several generations. Great dinner with wine and dessert. Nice garden with grapes and lots of flowers. Rooms nice and clean, as well as showers and toilet. Great value for the money!
