We ate in this restaurant the night before our friends' wedding. The food was very tasty and well presented. The service was excellent with explanations of what we were eating, including the 90 minute cheese served as an amuse bouche.

We visited the White Heather in Laragh with Australian in-laws. They loved the scenery in Co Wicklow and our choice of restaurant did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the staff charming and really efficient. An eclectic mix of antiques filled the first room to create a warm country ambiance. A side room, however, was the big surprise. It housed a wonderful collection of first edition books by eminent Irish authors. Stunning! Do go.

Bates Restaurant, the award winning restaurant located in the picturesque town of Rathdrum, in the heart of Co Wicklow. The restaurant is popular with locals and tourists for traditional and innovative European cuisine. The menu offers a variety of Steaks from the Char-Grill, Surf and Turf as well as a range of chicken, duck, venison and pork dishes. Seafood is a specialty at Bates Restaurant, with at least six dishes on the menu every day, including famous Chowder, Mussels, Prawns, Scallops, Sardines, Salmon, Hake, Trout and Plaice. The complimentary brown bread served to every customer is freshly baked every day by the Bates team, as is the cherry tomato and olive oil bread. The black olive and sundried tomato tapenades are also homemade, along with the majority of the dessert dishes. As well as offering a wide range of vegetarian, gluten free and healthy options, Bates Restaurant also has an extensive children’s menu.
Best meal of the trip, the staff were great and the food superb, we had steak, seafood, Mussels , all were very good served in a timely manner, and very tasty.
The surroundings are very very traditional and i would recommend this place if in the area!

We had an exemplary dining experience at the Grainstore. Kevin, the chef/owner, was personable and attentive. The ambience was very nice. Food was exceptional--especially the Sri Lankan Curry. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the Wicklow County area ( Rathdrum, Avoca, Aughrim, etc.)

Having watched and loved Ballykissangel, my father, son and I were very excited about eating in Fitzgeralds! On entering we were immediately hit with the stale smell and darkness of the interior, the pub is very tired and in dire need of updating. Myself and my father ordered Turkey and ham, my son ordered lasagne and chips. The food took a long time to arrive and the man who served us never once smiled. Turkey was tough and the ham was completely inedible. Potatoes were lumpy with hard bits. My son did not like the lasagne at all, I tasted it and there was a most peculiar overpowering herb in it. The chips were the only thing I could not fault. It was gourmet food prices for meals that could not be eaten. As we were leaving a tour bus load of people were entering, we pitied them! This is not what a representation of Ireland should be, how sad that they don't maximise on a golden opportunity. If it weren't for the tour buses this pub would close down , I will never eat here again!

The Conservatory is a hidden gem - a real find whilst we were exploring the Military Road south of Dublin, and well worth a visit, especially if you happen to be visiting Glendalough (one of Irelands most popular tourist destinations). The staff at The Conservatory are wonderfully friendly and hospitable, and the cafe/restaurant is so very quaint and gorgeous that was deservedly voted in The Bridgestone 100 best restaurants in Ireland 2010. It is an absolutely delightful and charming addition to the existing B&B.

It has had various online reviews:
http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/property-plus/school-of-style-1311120.html
http://www.ireland.com/food/restaurants/the-conservatory/391500

Contact details: Lisa de la Haye - 353 0404 45302 (mob: 353086 105 0592
Emails: [email protected]
This place is absolutely the biz! Totally relaxed with dogs wandeing in & out of the conservatory....wonderful atmosphere. The food is delicious. The savoury scones are absolutely delicious - GORGEOUS with the Minestrone soup which is very filling.
All the food is gorgeous, the beef pie was delicious. You don't want to leave here..... desserts too tempting.... pity it is only open on saturdays & Sundays. A great place to bring your Mum, Auntie, great for walkers, couples, everyone will love it.

There's not much to this place, but the food is great. This is the fish and chip shop on the other side of the wall from Hendley's Store. The cook was very nice. We asked her what the locals preferred and she recommended cod and chips. So we ordered them and they were very tasty - some of the best I've ever had. Very large portions.

The Dowlings own the lodge for 54 years and run it wonderfully! Well done to Martin, who ran around looking after our group of 34, even though we were late arriving (twice!). Lamb, Beef (and fish-tho' that's a secret!) were all tasty and plentiful.. The atmosphere is friendly and those stopping for a rest in between their walks or cycling trip loved it. Not too far away, there is a hostel (no wifi) you can book to stay and just live with nature. Ask for the history of the place- a wonder in itself! ENJOY!

After years of driving by Jack Whites on my way to and from Wexford, we decided to nip in for a fast lunch. I had wondered how it had fared now that the motorway was open a couple of years and it is now effectively off the beaten track.
It is extremely accessible, just at junction 19 of the M11.
Decor and menus definitely need an upgrade. But the restaurant was busy, we were served quickly and warmly, and the food arrived promptly.
We were hungry, and the portions were large. A little light on finesse, it was nevertheless delicious.
I was surprised at how cheap it was; definitely making a point of keeping the prices low. Perhaps that is why some of the other elements were underwhelming.
So, in summary, if you want solid food at a good price, go for it - I will again. Don't however expect haute cuisine....

Strongly recommend this restaurant. It is a fixed price menu and good value. Good selection of wines.
