The 750 square Kilometers Kinabalu Park was converted into a National Park in 1964 for its geographical importance and the abundance of flora and fauna. In December 2006, UNESCO awarded Kinabalu Park as Malaysia's first World Heritage Site for its "outstanding universal values" and its role as one of the most important biological sites in the world. Located 1,585 metres above sea level, Kinabalu Park showcases a complete and interesting ecological system unrivaled anywhere else in the world. It also carries lowland, mountain and alpine vegetation that are not seen anywhere else between the Himalayas and the New Guinea. Kinabalu Park also plays host to the annual Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon event, proclaimed as the "World's Toughest Mountain Race" and attracts top mountain racers from around the world.
I just bought an expensive Skechers shoes for travelling and also as my birthday gift to myself. It's like a self-reward to me after my hard work. I landed in KK and drove to KK right away on the same day and checked in to Hill Lodge during the evening when the rain starts pouring. It was a very tiring journey. I have many luggage as I am travelling with a baby. When I am picking up the luggage into the room, I forgot to bring my shoes together into the room because as a Malay, we rarely bring shoes inside our house. I left it at the verandah exactly near the door for a while. After some minutes, I take my shoes in but it was torn into pieces. My newly bought Skechers was torn into pieces! I was just about to begin my holiday but it was already spoiled. And then at 11 PM, some dogs (5-6 dogs) brawled and keep barking at each other just beside my room. My baby was awakened by the barking and starts wailing. We were also awakened by the noises and struggled to contact the counter as they are closed after 10 pm. To contact the manager, we need to search her number through their website. After 20minutes, a security guard comes and shoos the dogs away. It was a terrible experience and no one comes comforting us or saying sorry about it. It was a really awful experience. I am okay with the old furniture, poor facilities etc, but not this. I never expected SSL to be this terrible because it has many chains of businesses. But it is. I really don't recommend you guys to stay here. The only good thing is, the food is quite nice. That's all. To SSL, please install a fence at the verandah so that the dogs will not loiter around the verandah.

Mile 36 Lodge is sited in an attractive location, steps away from the border to the Mount Kinabalu National Park. Stayers enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kinabalu in the front lawn of the Lodge. The grounds of the Lodge are larger than most lodges and it is a peaceful nature retreat. Within the compound, one can stroll amidst many flowering scrubs and hear the melodious strains of the birds. Sited at an altitude of 1,500m, the air is cool, between 18°C to 25°C. Mile 36 Lodge is a great place for leisure, gatherings, rest point as you do bird and flower watching activities.
Booked double standard room on the lower floor with mountain view. Require to carry baggage and walk a distance down a narrow steps before reach room. Back to nature. No fan, aircond, tv in the room. But very cold weather. Steps sound from upper floor is very loud.night time may have insects (flies, spiders, bugs) as visitor. No electricity for 2 hours during stay.

Selamat Datang - WELCOME - to AYANA! Located at Tinompok, right at the junction after Bundu Tuhan and just 600 metres away from Mount Kinabalu National Park. This resort has one of the best front row seat views of Bundu Tuhan Village, and a perfect place for climbers who are readying to ascend the mountain. All year round, Tinompok can be quite misty throughout the day, as the clouds travel from the Kiau Valley to the Bundu Tuhan valley, passing Ayana Holiday Resort which sits on a small hill right in the middle of these two valleys. The day-time temperature is mild and relaxing from an average of 20°C, at night the temperature can drop as low as 13°C - definitely making Ayana Holiday Resort a great place to escape from the warm and humid condition of the hot tropical lowlands. It is a place to enjoy a cooling and peaceful atmosphere around the highland regions surrounding Mount Kinabalu. Considered as mid-range accommodations, Ayana Holiday Resort offers a choice of four categories: standard, deluxe, superior and the Holiday-House. These rooms are not five-stars but they are reasonably priced, clean & comfortable. The spacious Holiday-House can accommodate up to 9 persons. Everybody knows that finding good accommodation in Kundasang area can be difficult. Let us help you avoid disappointment and stress.
Clean rooms but not at hotel standards, of course. With the cold wet, damp weather, there will always be that musky damp smell, not to mention bugs and moths. No air cond, no fan but cool enough if you open the windows. However, at night, the room lights attract the bugs! Kettle, coffee & tea provided. Strong WiFi. Limited TV channels but they provide a thumb drive with movies. Seperate toilet and shower. Our room has a long big sink. No fridge. We prefer rooms at same level as reception to avoid walking down the open-air slippery steps to the garden rooms below. However, staff quarters just a floor below reception, thus can be a little noisy before 9pm Ample car park. Easy road access without steep climbs and without muddy narrow paths. Lily's Kitchen Cafe is just beside it. There is a good Chinese restaurant called Station89 2km up the road towards Kundasang.

I would have given this place a better rating but as I said the road there is horrible. I mean over 2km of the rattling ride is not my cup of tea. This makes our stay there to not want to venture out of the place and just stay in the area. The food prices in the restaurant are not bad. Also, the free breakfast sucks. Hard boil eggs, mee hoon or mee, fried rice that looks like plain rice, margarine, local jam, coffee, tea, baked beans, chopped hot dogs. Really sucks if you stay more than one day as you have the same breakfast. But, the mountain view of the rooms is fantastic. There are other rooms that do not face the mountain, so when you are booking take note of that.

Stayed at River Lodge, that was the only unit available at that time to accommodate our family. Lodge is really near to the river and surrounded with trees, shade and damp environment. 2 BR both with huge bathroom and balconies. There is no aircond in the living room and no pantry. Master bedroom direct view to the river downhill. 2nd br view is the road. No wifi during our stay due to line problem according to the staff. There's always room for some maintenance or renovation and a small pantry corner would be nice too ? . staff were nice and service was excellent. extra bed for rm70 each. next time we will book the bigger units, palm villa. price not that much different. oh yes 1 more thing, you need to do something with the aircond inside the master bedroom, the wall was vibrating and remote not functioning at all.

Best view of Mt Kinabalu is definitely from Studio 2. However, the room is very, very old and run down. Cockroaches, mosquitoes and cats. Wanted to self cater during our stay but there is no refrigerator in the room despite having a small kitchen. The lady let us store our groceries in the drink's fridge downstairs. There is no breakfast here. Cooking limited to one wok and a rice cooker. Very limited utensils, crockery and cutlery.
