Thandwe ("Thandway" in Arakanese)(Burmese: သံတွဲမြို့; MLCTS: samtwai: mrui. [θàɴdwɛ́ mjo̰]; formerly Sandoway) is a town and major seaport in Rakhine State, the westernmost part of Myanmar. Thandwe is very ancient, and is said to have been at one time the capital of Rakhine State, then called Arakan. The district has an area of 3,784 square miles (9,800 km). The country is mountainous, the Arakan Mountains sending out spurs which reach the coast. Some of the peaks in the north attain 4,000 and more ft. The streams are only mountain torrents to within a few miles of the coast; the mouth of the Khwa forms a good anchorage for vessels of from 9 to 10 ft (3.0 m). draught. The rocks in the Arakan Range and its spurs are metamorphic, and comprise clay, slates, ironstone and indurated sandstone; towards the south, ironstone, trap and rocks of basaltic character are common; veins of steatite and white fibrous quartz are also found. Between 1961 and 1990, the mean annual rainfall was 5,323 millimetres (209.6 in). Except a few acres of tobacco, all the cultivation is rice.

Seaview Paradise has a number of recipes of their own, and they are pretty good. So if you need a change from the usual grilled squid, this cosy little place is worth trying. I can recommend the BBQ (a plate of different seafood grilled in a tasty marinade).

We stayed for a month (!!) at Ngapali Beach. Although we tried numerous restaurants, we kept coming back to Oasis. Our staple was vegetables with roasted cashews, as well as fish curry and of course the classic tea leaf salad (so crunchy and flavorful). The staff go out of their way to be friendly and get to know their clients. The Hostess gave us a goodbye gift AND ordered us a basket of steamed sticky rice for our flight home. Thank you from Canada!!

We came in this restaurant with no idea of what we will get, and it was a very nice surprise.We took a grilled fish we shared (red snapper), an avocado salad and two smoothies. All was perfect : all tasty, and made with care. Avocado salad came mixed with peanuts, tomato and caramelised onions. The fish was perfectly grilled and served with a side soy ginger chilli sauce. Plus, the waitress (and probably owner) was really sweet ! She came several time asking if everything was ok.Free fruits as a desert to end the lunch.I totally recommend this place !

We've tried several plates in Golden Sky, of which one that we had in neighboring restaurants (tempura seafood). In Golden Sky we had the most fresh, crisp and tasty ones!! The sweet&sour octopus and grilled tuna steak were delicious too. Very friendly owner. We will be back :)

Great small family run restaurant (not to be confused with the similarly named but much larger Sunset View restaurant nearby), on the beach next to the Art Gallery along "beach restaurant street". 15mins walk down the beach from Sandoway.Fabulous grilled barracuda, & red snapper curry. Some of the best during our 6wk SEA trip, and much much better than at our hotel. Charming friendly service. Lovely beach and sea views. And all at very reasonable prices, about 25k. I think the fish is bought to order from the fishing village so is very fresh. Strongly recommended. We eat a lot of fresh whole fish at home.
