Reviews on Caribbean food in Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Akumal means "Place of the Turtle" in the Mayan language, and if you snorkel here, you just might see one swimming alongside you. (Don’t touch it, though. That’s prohibited by law.) You’ll definitely see coral and beautiful fish in the clear, sparkling waters. This tourist-friendly little town is about an hour south of Cancun—but it seems light-years away.

One of the best restaurants in town. A little of the beaten path, but well worth the walk. Fish is always prepared well and with a wide variety of presentations. Staff is attentive and friendly.

We live at the camp ground and itâs a short walk but the food is awesome and the staff is so friendly
We saw a huge group of young folks here so thought it had to be good. Also some locals. It was good. We had two soups that were really good. Fish tacos that were unadorned. A pork dish that was ok. Margarita was very good. We like to support local places that arenât overly touristy and weâre glad we came here. Reasonable cost. Cash only

This restaurant was just up the beach from where we were staying. It is located right on the sand, but also has a pool to sit in while you're enjoying your food/drinks. Employees were friendly and efficient and the food was excellent! We particularly enjoyed the shrimp stuffed avocado (a whole avocado cut in half and stuffed with cocktail shrimp, pico de gallo, and sweet cocktail sauce). We also had the fresh fish of the day (mahi mahi), which was delicious, too.

Caribbean restaurant and longstanding, Mexican food, seafood, and drinks. Family and local restaurant.
We visited in May. The Margarita is like rocket fuel! We were slighted disappointed that the prawns were over cooked, and the fish (whole snapper) which we asked to be grilled, was undercooked when first served to us, and overcooked and slightly smugly served as âcrispyâ when it was returned to us. Frequented by lots of locals but we preferred the Bakery and Jungle Fish.
