A quaint restaurant with superb french cuisine. We've been several times now and the meals have always been absolutely delicious. Run by husband and wife, the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Vivianne is a delightful hostess, taking the time to explain what goes into the meals and how they're prepared. From the entrees to the main dish and accompanying vegetables, everything was exquisite. For refined dinning this gem of a restaurant is highly recommended.

We have been customers of this establishment for years, but since a recent busy Saturday night visit have lowered our rating to barely average. Firstly, the ambiance: warm, cute, pleasant.... however our reserved table was adjacent to the entrance/desk making the location unpleasant. My request to sit at a better located table was denied since they were also reserved. The food: not nearly as good as it used to be....2 of us had the soupe du jour, and 2 had the escargot,,,,,all just OK and no better. All the main courses came with the same vegetable assortment,,,,, a dried-out potato mound, an under-cooked carrot, a mushy sugar snap pea, and an OK cherry tomato. My wife had the best main, the rack of lamb. I had the sweetbreads which were sauteed nicely, but without any sauce. Our friends did not fare as well. The fillet was judged just passable, while a scallop and shrimp dish should have been an embarassment to the chef! Deserts ranged from good to terrible. (2 of us ordered the apple desert shown in the picture, unfortunately there was none left, so we both ended up with unedibly sweet tartlets). The service: surprisingly poor, including that by the owner who takes your order. Our reservation was for 7PM. Upon an on-time arrival, we were seated promptly. Our orders were taken some 15 minutes later. An ordered bottle of wine arrived at the table quickly, and immediately poured. First courses followed about 30 min. later, while mains didn't make it to the table until after 9PM when the restaurant started clearing out. All the while servers were scarce: butter was forgotten, forks and knives were lacking with the mains, water refills were not easy to come by, we were refilling our own wine glasses, etc. NOT A GOOD REVIEW. There is no excuse for poor food and service. This is especially so when the kitchen and front are run by experienced owners, and even if the restaurant was lucky enough to be busy/full that night. The owner I'm sure was aware of the evening's shortcomings but nary an apology even to a regular customer.La Chaumiere used to be our go-to restaurant, but will not be in the future. There are enough alternatives to replace it.

Had lunch here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Boss man was very helpful and carefully interpreted our English plus a few French words into something understandable. We enjoyed lasagna, crepe with jambon et fromage, tarte tatin...all very nicely done. Great attentive service, informal clean and very reasonable. Bon appetit!

We went for lunch. Pleasant atmosphere, menu selection not exhaustive, rather bland but copious. I wouldn't rate this as a gourmet experience. They have an interesting concept. You can play all sorts of different table games hence the word ludique. Personally not into that but a lot of people might be. I do believe their evening dinner selection is much better than the one on offer at lunch. I would still recommend it. There aren't that many good restaurants in Ste. Agathe.

Maison 1890 is a brilliant gem of fine cuisine, great service and a lovely setting. It is exceptionally successful because it is exceptional, every time. On our most recent visit we enjoyed lighter meals (scallops, squid) which were perfect, with some interesting wines. From experience we can recommend any seafood dish, or the rack of lamb, the chops, the fantastic beef, and the salads (a truly great Caesar).

Casual decor (paper tablecloths) for a restaurant serving duck a l'orange and entrees for $34. Fillet mignon was presented raw on a hot stone and the diner does the cooking to preference. The fillet was high quality although the other diners' meals were brought at the same time as the raw filet. They finished eating prior to the completion of the cooking of the fillet. According to the folks who ordered the duck, it was not very good. The gravlax starter was excellent. The bocconcini/tomato salad was a little strange as it also had non-fresh cheese in addition to some very good Bayonne ham. Overall, the food was pretty good but the experience was just so-so given the price.Thank you for your comments, we will give them to the owner of the Auberge. Hope to host you again in the future.

Restaurant L'Epicurieux offers a seasonal cuisine which varies often. The menu carries a variety of small plates made to share. A wine list (mainly natural wines) and a list of signature cocktails is also available.
From the outside, this restaurant is not that appealing...shares a building with a cluttered bike and kayak rental business. Once inside , however, you see a great open kitchen with in door, bar and patio sections. The daily plates are on a paper menu and change frequently. The restaurant prides itself in local farm meats and produce growers. They offer a five plate, $ 30 , " SURPRISE " menu that must be taken by all present at the table. We three did this. The first plate was a salad made with beet leaves , red onions, scallions, Asiago cheese, and sliced cucumber in a tasty balsamic based vinaigrette. This was tasty, but beet leaves are bitter and are not for all.The second plate was a base of Matane baby shrimps , topped with a salad containing chives,tarragon,dill,red/yellow cherry tomatoes in a lemon based vinaigrette.Thirdly, we were presented an attractive plate of Beef Carphaccio with almonds, yellow/green beans cut short and on the bias and drizzled in a fantastic creme' fraiche and mustard seed combo dressing.( Best Dish of all )The fourth plate was odd and somewhat disappointing , despite being a true surprise and unique eating experience for trained foodies ". It consisted of small corn cob pieces, grilled on a bed of cheese sauce and sprinkled with mint and a side bread crumb medley. Truly original. The fifth and last plate consisted of relatively large clams with squash, cucumbers, carrots, and potatoes in a creamy sauce, sort of bouillabaisse styleService was great ( young male students who knew the menu well) ; polite, attentive and eye candy for the many young ladies in attendance. Varied local brews were available and a fairly decent, medium priced , wine list was available. We thought that the last plate should have been sort of a dessert presentation but it did not pan out that way. This is a great place for vegetarian and adventurous palates who want smaller plates. Worth a visit if ever in Val David or Laurentian region as a whole.Garnett

Went to La Table des Gourmets for a family celebration.I have been to hundreds of restaurants of various qualities around the world. The service here was awful.Once we sat, it took over 15 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted any beverages, or had questions about the menu.Once we ordered, it took over 45 minutes to receive our appetizers of salads and gazpacho. In other words, over an hour from our arrival until we received any food.We had to ask several times for bread for the table. Our main courses (lamb, fish, risotto) were tiny portions, and not particularly flavourful. We left the restaurant with a very disappointed experience (and a large bill). Will certainly not return.
