We passed this cafe four times, and the chalkboard sign saying that their homemade ice cream was made fresh daily enticed us. Especially, since the weather was warm (almost hot), and we like ice cream.
One day (9/19) we decided to stop in and get some of this ice cream. We had never been here before, but the place is lovely, both the inside, and the outside flower bedecked patio. When we entered, we looked around for the ice cream flavor menu, as all their menus are on the wall. We did not see it, walked around the counter, and glanced everywhere. All this time, there were 4-6 employees standing around chatting. I went up to them, and nobody even looked in my direction. Finally, I said, "Excuse me.....". I asked about the menu, and it seems it had not been placed in a visible spot.
However, since they were not interested in being helpful, we were no longer interested in their ice cream.

Chef and General Manager James Martin, along with brothers Barry and Brian Jessurun of The Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret and Dog Lane Café in Storrs, opened 85 main in 2005. 85 main was created with goal of offering fresh, quality seafood and steaks along with locally grown produce in an atmosphere one might expect to find in a "big" city. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and cooked-to-order menu items. The interior of the building was completely remodeled, creating a warm, inviting and casual dining environment. During the warmer months, the outdoor patio is open for dining.
Dropped in here for lunch midweek after reading great reviews on TA. Found on street parking right across from restaurant, and was surprised to find a great little restaurant one would typically find in a big city. Great atmosphere and service, along with delicious food. The optional exfoliating scrub in the bathroom is an example of this restaurant's uniqueness. If I'm ever in Putnam again, I would definitely dine here again.

Twice now I've joined friends here for lunch on the outside patio. It's a lovely area, mostly shaded from the summer sun along side the train tracks (I was hoping a train would come by while we were there). I had a delicious and fresh...MoreThank you so much!!! We look forward to seeing you soon and appreciate the great feedback.

A taste of the city here in this CT bakery from ambiance to beautifully decorated desserts. Family and Couple friendly. Comfortable enough to want to open up my brief, relax in one of those living room style chairs with my material and enjoy a solo coffee with portion sized "something sweet". Highly recommend.

Coffee roaster with full service cafe including signature drinks like the Smokin' Mocha, The Floridian or the Honey Badger.
Under new management, Ben's Beans is ALWAYS my go to coffee roaster when I'm in the area. Owner Michele Lundstrom is super nice, accommodating, and creative. She has great plans for Ben's as it matures. I can't wait to see what unfolds. But until then, if you haven't treated yourself to recently roasted coffee beans from all over, you are missing out! The ambience is relaxed and open, the service friendly, and the coffee meant for true aficionados. I even have fresh beans mailed to my home in Takoma Park, MD twice a month. Seriously.

We've been here for breakfast and lunch in the past and both were excellent. HUGE portions, fresh ingredients and comfort food to the core. The breakfast burrito is always a great choice and their sandwiches are all excellent as well. On this visit, we enjoyed a breakfast special and a breakfast burrito and, as always, were very pleased. Restaurant is very small inside so fills up quickly - especially on the weekends.
But, one thing you HAVE to try is their cupcakes. TO DIE FOR. Amazing - wonderful - the best in the entire town. And, oh, the flavors...Almond Joy cupcakes, Carrot Cake cupcakes, Chocolate Bomb cupcakes and the list goes on and on. SO delicious. So, try them out for breakfast and lunch (they serve both ALL DAY!) but don't miss the cupcakes...even if you take one home with you!

Great addition to Putnam. Large chocolate selection in small street level shop. Very friendly owners. Hot chocolate bar helped with this cold winter. Gifts, coffees and more.

For lunch on the road today, we stepped back into the 1950s. Fast service, super frappes, a large salad, burgers and sandwiches........ all good. There is no indoor seating but on a lovely day like today the outdoor picnic benches worked just fine. No gourmet fare but fries, rings, seafood, burgers, and ice cream delights - anyone should be able to find something tasty on their menu to tickle their palate.
