This open air bar and restaurant is a must go to place. The setting is amazing, a beautiful tended garden with a cool bar area and the cooking is done on a barbecue. They serve delicious barbecued meats and salads and on Saturday and Sunday lunch they serve tasty paella. Good value for money, amazing food in an lovely setting definitely recommend a visit.

Our trip to Spain took us from Madrid to Ourense so we looked for a place to stop about half way. Found Planetorium on Maps and off we went. Easy to find but not sure of it when we arrived. The bar area was not very clean but when we went in to the restaurant it was very nice with contemporary design. The best part was the choices offered and for a very reasonable price. The food was very good especially the rice with cuttlfish and "ink". Pork brochettes were wonderful. All said, a great meal and very nice service.

Had dinner here and was charmed by the staff and clientele- itâs obviously a local favourite. I had a great meal and couldnât believe it when the bill came for only â¬10- incredible value for 3 courses, including wine. Me gusta mucho! buenas comidas y muy barato.

Three of us visited last night, wanting pizza.Unfortunately it was poor. They appear to be frozen with a very strange "cheese" topping. Fake cheese (yes it exists) or a bland sauce maybe. The chips were fine. Some thet people had burgers and you could see thst they were the mass produced frozen rubbish rather than fresh and made on the kitchen. We won't go again. There must be better in town.

The Parador seems to be the posh place of chocie for locals. The reason is not only its elegance and great service, but also that they serve local fare and present it to modern international standards. Try the natillas con feos for dessert or the tocino del cielo con helado de queso villalon, or the cordero a la zamorana and you will be sampling elegant versions of what they have eaten around Benavente for centuries!Dear guest, Thank you for your kind opinion, we are very happy to know your stay was very positive. We hope you come back to this Parador another time with us! Sincerely,

Our friends have a house near Benavente, and were very keen for us to try California - they really rated it from a number of previous visits. Of the three Restaurants we visited whilst staying with them, California was our least favourite. They just fell a bit short in our opinion. Firstly, the bread was quite dry - not something experienced anywhere else - the sliced fried potatoes with the main course were cold and âsadâ, and the waiting staff were rather too enthusiastic in delivering the second plate before one of our group had finished the first. Our friends say âthis is the Spanish wayâ, but it just looks like bad manners, and a desire to rush us out to me. I have to point out this is the opinion of two of the party of nine - I know others enjoyed it more than we did - the Risotto scored very highly with those that ordered it, and the Sweets were lovely. Given that the lunchtime menu was only â¬15 for three courses, it seems hard to criticise - but the other two Restaurants were very similar in price, and easily scored five stars.

Having mislaid the details of Cambados, we arrived in the town of Benavente one lunchtime, drove around a bit and enquired in a cafe where we could have a good lunch. By chance, we were directed right there! A big but bland restaurant behind a small shopfront in a quiet side street off one of the main drags. It seems to be a place well known to and well regarded by the locals, foremost for its seafood, but in a place halfway between Porto and the larger northern Spanish towns, it suited us perfectly.Three course formule menu for 10 euro, the sign outside read. (Other establishments take note!).The very patient and kind waitress carefully translated all the menu items we couldn't understand. We selected paella for the first dish and tuna for the second. Good plain cooking and plenty of it - see photos. The piece of tuna we each had could have needed a bank loan anywhere else. Just enough room after that for a bowl of home made lemon mousse! Water and bread were also supplied, included in the price. No wine, as we were driving! Service was friendly and efficient. With an expresso coffee extra, we were happy to pay the bill of 21 euro!If you are travelling through this area, we recommend you fill up!

WOW, Jose made us feel right at home. Came in for early lunch and they were very accommodating. The Cecina and gambas as appetizer were excellent. The Lechazo hot the spot and for dessert the arroz con leche rivaled my grandmothers. If passing through, a must.

Even tho the waiters couldn't speak fluent english but it is great that they have english translation for the words on menu and it is easy for us to order. The food is very nice and please remember to order the iberico pork, which is extremely delicious and juicy!

My boyfriend and I went to the restaurant on our anniversary. The service, atmosphere, food, and drink, everything was beyond my expectation. We ordered 3 appetizers, 1 fish, 1 dessert - shared everything in half. My favorite was roasted vegetables and fresh shrimp. Absolutely amazing! Also I loved the dessert I chose which our server explained as "eating perfume". Wonderful! The friendly head chef stopped by our table 3 times to see if we are enjoying everything. I totally recommend this restaurant to everyone!
