The rooms are excellent we had a balcony however the view is somewhat disappointing as it over looks what looked like a quarry works or something similar. It was no problem to the hotel as its in the distance but does kind spoil the view. bathroom was excellent as was the room very clean and kept to a high standard. It has its own restaurant and the food was very good and outstanding value. We had been given garaged parking for our bike and one of the staff was a biker himself and was very helpful and interesting to talk to. All the staff were friendly and helpful, the only let down we found was the breakfast which was pre packed muffins and other stuff and was an additional cost we passed it by. I would stay again and it very biker friendly!

The Parador is located in a privileged place, only 12 km. away from the wonderful lake of Sanabria, the largest of Spain which glacial origin is known. In the center of the region of Sanabria, bordering Portugal, the Hotel is ideal to welcome great travelers and nature lovers who come to this place to start excursions and green tourism routes, which both recreate the view and relax your mind. With a very careful and cozy decoration, the rooms of the interior offer the quality and warmth necessary to enjoy a pleasant stay. The lounge, with a placid fireplace, and some rooms have windows that allow the contemplation of the precious historical monuments of Puebla de Sanabria.
First impressions,a very smart hotel.Rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The staff are pretty good too. However,I think that the chef has delusions of grandeur in that the menu attempts to be grander than necessary. It is a Parador, after all,so I wouldn’t expect fish and chips. We had two double rooms and paid for four adults half board.Somehow my two boys were offered the children’s menu-obviously much cheaper. The dining room opens at nine and,by ten,we hadn’t had starters-only an amuse bouche (refer to my earlier point).I left the table at half ten. Imagine my surprise when my elder son saught me out to say he had a caterpillar in his burger. He removed it from his mouth but the waitress left it wriggling on the table. The management were most apologetic and took a little off the bill the next day-one half board was reduced to one B&B.As we hadn’t had the 4 x adult half board we’d paid for, not much of a gesture. The town itself is stunning and we shall stay at the possada next time.

Christina on Reception was Excellent! We arrived and the restaurant, including most of the town was closed to due to a public holiday. We were unable to find anywhere open locally to eat. It would have been helpful if the Marriott group had informed us of this upon booking, which included their restaurant. Like all negative criticism it snowballs into overall bad experience. In summary this hotel is a poor reflection on the Marriott brand

We were driving up from Madrid to the Picos, but wanted to stop off to visit the Villiafilia lagoons and this appeared to be the only hotel nearby and as it also had a restaurant we booked in. We had a few email exchanges before trying to book a car parking space and a table at the restaurant but it was very difficult to communicate with the hotel. Several emails went back and forward and we arrived not really sure if both things had been booked. The hotel is located in the middle of a small street , however there is a small car park a little further up the road that you can book a space in . Be aware though it is a very narrow entrance and our normal sized family car only got through with an inch or so to spare. The owner doesn't speak much English , and demanded our passports as soon as we arrived which he kept until the next morning which was a little worrying. The rooms are surrounding a pretty courtyard and are designed in an old Spanish style and clean and airy. The beds were rock solid though, and our friends could not get any hot water for their shower either day, which just got a shrug from the owner when they complained. He went to their room and turned on the sink tap and then the shower and then hot water appeared?? Anyhow we had booked a table for 8.30 but when we checked with the owner he said no 9pm. So we went for a walk through the town, which was quick pretty with an impressive gateway, and a nice central square with a bar for a drink. We went into the restaurant at 9 and we were the only guests there , there also only appeared to be 1 member of staff who had little English too. We were given a menu, but when we choose our meals she just kept saying no you can't have, eventually it appeared to be that we could only order one thing and we all had to have the same . The same thing happened with the pudding , although my friend ordered hers but when we tried to order ours we all had to have three the same. Strangely other ( Spanish) guests came in later and she seemed to have a handwritten menu that they choose from and the could all order different dishes. We wondered if when we eat she was the only one on duty and could only cope with cooking a single meal from the menu and that that another member of staff came later. Breakfast was slightly better but was just bread rolls brought to your table with a selection of jams, honey and a strange savoury sauce and then four different individual cakes along with coffee/tea. There is a spa there also but we didn't use it . Sleep was ok it was very quiet but the beds very uncomfortable

Posada Real la Carteria is placed in the heart of the historical and artistic centre of the medieval village of Puebla de Sanabria. The building was built in 1736 and used as office of collect of tithes from the monks of the Cister and also as the first post office in Sanabria which is the reason of its current name. This small hotel is located close to the main square of the town and surrounded by the walls of the Castle of the Benavente Count. On its rehabilitation has been respect the original aesthetics based on stone slabs frontages, centenary wood girders, oak floors and slate roof. The house still conserves its galleries and corridors where it is possible to enjoy a nice view of the river Tera and the walls of the Castle. La Carteria has eight different and spacious rooms with Twin or King Size beds, distributed in 5 Suites and 3 Double Rooms. It is possible to ask for an extra bed or a cradle. All rooms are equipped with TV, DVD, free mini-bar, electric kettle with teas, safe, Wi-Fi connection, laptop (previous order) and complete bathroom with hair dryer, shaving mirror and amenities besides having hydro-massage baths in some double rooms and Jacuzzi in suites. Our clients are received with fruit and chocolates on their rooms. The rooms are characterized by the mixture of decorative styles, combining the rustic elements with the minimalist furniture, taking care of each detail with the aim of getting the best quality and comfort. In the same building there is a SPA area which includes gym, Sauna, Turkish bath and Hydro-massage shower. There are also available for our clients two living-rooms with a library area, TV-zone and a computer with free internet connection. In the Tavern located in the medieval wineries of the hotel it is possible to enjoy homemade courses typical from the cuisine of Sanabria ('habones', veal or trout from the river Tera...). The restaurant is specialized in mycological food and it has a direct exit to the walls of the Castle. It is recommendable to walk through the stone streets, visit the castle, the museum of "Gigantes y Cabezudos", or just to have a break in our bar where the warm chimney on winter season and its wonderful sights to the river Tera will make that your visit to Sanabria had been worth it.
Very nice atmosphere, spacious, clean, modern rooms, pleasant treatment. very comfortable, recommended. It is a very well rebuilt hotel of an old post office, the decoration is meticulous and it has achieved an atmosphere, at the same time, old and modern and comfortable.

Nice hotel on the edge of the village. The room was reasonably sized with a safe but no refrigerator. The room was very dark even with all of the lights turned on. Very few electric outlets so bring an extension cord with multiple outlets. The room had a "window" in the slanted roof with a shade that could be opened. The room air conditioning worked well. An irritating feature is the automatic lighting in the bathroom that is VERY bright, a problem for a night time bathroom visit. Quirks aside we had a nice stay. The bar is very reasonably priced and the restaurant provides very good food at a reasonable price.
