This place looked nice, and the menu sounded interesting. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to expectations. The cod felafel were very dry, and the meat dishes were very average. Ratte potatoes, in case you're wondering, was two boiled kipflers. It turned out to be quite an expensive night by Bilbao standards. The ambience isn't helped by fluorescent lighting that gives a roadside cafe effect. On the plus side the wine is cheap and drinkable.

200 meters far from the Guggenheim museum, this restaurant is a perfect choice to have a very good meal in a cozy and elegant location. The restaurant is chic and welcoming, quite big but still I would recommend to have a reservation (mainly evenings and weekends). We had a sit in what I believe is the best place you can have, close to the kitchen, where you can have a look at the chef while he's grilling meat and fish or finalizing his artworks.Quite some options in the menu, we had oysters as starters, as well as some croquettes (with octopus and with local ham), both delicious. We then had a warm starter with mushrooms, egg and potatoes, to eventually have two amazing meat based courses: dados de solomillo and a yakitori iberico. The menu is made of dishes that are supposed to be shared, to enjoy more than a single one while having lunch/dinner here.We paid 40 Euro each, a few glass of wine included. Not that expensive, for a meal experience that worths the visit.Dear @GregorioIndelicato, thanks for leaving us such a wonderful review. We are thrilled that you loved your experience; our staff will definitely be happy to read what you wrote. We put customer experience and satisfaction as our priority, and your review reaffirms the hard work we put in every day. It was our first night in Bilbao and we had no dinner bookings. So we checked with the hotel. The front desk recommended Porrue strongly. Although the reviews were a bit mixed, we decided to try Porrue since it is virtually next to the hotel. The restaurant website also looked good.Sadly, It was the only regrettable meal we had in Basque Country.Porrue was quite quiet when we arrived around 730 pm and there was probably one service staff. He was quite helpful. Our first starter of anchovies tasted like it came out of a can and it took a long time to be served. We had great anchovies in the tapas bar in San Sebastián and we thought we canât go wrong. Porrueâs anchovies were very salty and the service staff explained that it was a different variety from what we ate at San Sebastián. Next was the risotto which was just too salty to be edible and we sent it back to the kitchen. It was replaced promptly. The biggest let down was the main course. We had to send back the ox steak as it was rare for us. It came back a few minutes. The meat tasted like it was simply slapped on a grill - without any seasoning. It was also cold. They served the main dish with limp fries and a bowl of green lettuce that looked like remnants of the dayâs vegetables. We hardly ate them. By then, we lost our appetite, nibbled on a few slices of the meat, paid the bill (which was over-priced considering what we ate) and left.Thankfully, after Porrue, we had great meals with good value at the Neura, restaurant at Hotel Marques de Riscal and the Markina restaurant. Given the consistent track record of good food in Basque Country since we arrived almost a week ago, I wonder if it was simply a poor kitchen day at Porrue. With Basque countryâs culture of excellent cuisine and fresh ingredients, I think Porrue can be better by focusing more on the food and less on presentation. Ps: After I gave my feedback to the hotel of our Porrue dining experience, they apologised and dropped us a note with a small box of chocolates. Nice touch.

We stopped here for a swift one whilst waiting for our table as Cascanueces. It turns out they are owned by the same people, and if the quality here is anything like its big brother the pintxos should be brilliant.

We recently ate at Nura. Our 3 course lunch, including 2 carafes of house wine, cost 40 Euros. The food was excellent. Surprisingly, we were the only diners. While the address is not in Bilbao's old town, it is only a short walk away, over the river. The area is a little down-at-heel, but we felt perfectly safe walking there and back.

This place makes unique dishes (not typical Spanish) that are well prepared and varied. Very sophisticated for a reasonably priced menu del dìa.

With a tradition of more than 85 years, La Viña del Ensanche offers two different spaces: The Bar, traditional premise with the classic ambient of tavern, including a covered terrace. It's Degustation Menu includes the best products from our main carte. I
Got there on a busy Saturday night and it looked packed, with many 'reserved' signs on tables, but a friendly waiter got us a great table for 5. Food was fresh, really tasty and very reasonably priced. A huge wine list and we enjoyed a wonderful wine suggested by the waiter. Croquettes wonderfully flavoured and melted in our mouths. Iberico ham served on foie gras was a terrific mix of tastes. Yummy salads to boot. Nothing bad to say. This spot is a must.

First of all, service is excellent. They really take time to make guests feel welcome and to explain the menu. We had the steak tartare, gyoza style dumplings, octopus, and the forest for dessert. Everything was tasty and well prepared. The dessert was absolutely beautiful! Also kudos for being flexible with portion sizing.
