After a whole day wandering around Venice, upon return to Chioggia, we decided to use a restaurant nearby our hotel. Bacaro, in the main street of Chioggia, had tables available. The inside area is very small, but all their tables are in front of the restaurant. They serve mainly fish, which is not so strange in a fishermen's village like Chioggia. As starters, we ordered 2x 4 scallops as starters, which were simply DELICIOUS. They sell them in whichever quantity you want, at 3 euro a piece, so when you order you have to say how many you want. I do have to say that I found the scallops kind of small for this price. As main course, we went for a large dish of grilled fish for two which was very good too. I read in some reviews that this place is overpriced, but I disagree: the price is right for what we got.The only negative I would say is the service: contrary to many place in Chioggia where it seems they want you in-and-out in as least time as possible, in Bacaro La Baia Dei Porci is rather slow. Also the knowledge and friendliness of the staff could be improved somewhat. We pointed to a dish just served at a table near us, asking if this was the "Grilled fish mix" platter, and got the reply "no, the grilled fish mix is a much much bigger platter". When the dish came, it was exactly what we pointed to at the other table.... weird (question was asked in Italian, so the language cannot have been the problem). Except for the service, we surely can recommend this place for a dinner ! The food is great and the price is right.

I picked this restaurant because of the reviews here on Trip Advisor. We were staying at the Grand. Everything nearby seemed pretty expensive compared to everywhere else we had been in our 12 days in Italy. We wanted to continue eating wonderful food but at an affordable price. This place did not disappoint. It is very small but the four of us found a nice place at a table along the wall. The atmosphere here is very cozy and nice. The prices were very reasonable and the food was absolutely fantastic. Take a minute to find this place. It's worth it.The only challenge we had was that we could not read or speak Italian. I think the locals mainly go here so they do not cater to Americans with an English menu. No problem, however, the chef came out and explained everything on the menu. We ended up ordering several things and all were excellent, particularly the pizza. With four of us ordering more food than we can eat and 2 bottles of wine the bill came to only 65 euros. Bring cash with you, however, as they do not accept credit cards.Valerie, Andrew and Barbara were absolutely wonderful to us. They even treated us to a delicious dessert.

Consigliatissimo
