Province of Venice, Italy Food Guide: 10 Mediterranean food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Venice

November 13, 2019 Brain Ambrose

Find out what Mediterranean restaurants to try in Venice. For centuries Venice has been defined by its otherworldly presence. Divided into six sestieri (districts), the city is split by the Grand Canal, snaking through Venice in a backwards “S” formation. Water here is a means of communication, connecting its parts as well as opening the city to the outside world. People move themselves and cargo by foot and boats of all types. A city of great contrasts, the strength and beauty of Venice are perpetually challenged by its great fragility – constant study, repair, resourcefulness, and vigilance maintain a very delicate balance here.

A lovely restaurant that is very reasonably priced. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable and make you feel very welcome. We dined outside and the atmosphere, food and wine was exceptional - we spent just over 3 hours here watching the world go by never once felt pressured to leave (probably due to the amount of wine we were drinking :-0).We shared a mixed meat platter for starters, both had seafoff pasta for mains and I devoured a tiramisu - Recommend all of these dishes.Well worth a visit

Local is surely a place to visit, with quite interesting local food processed fabulously - yet, the logic to offer "pre-set" minimum dinners seems strange, and prices are clearly too high. Assume to spend much time waiting for your food as well. We've been there before - a few years ago, shortly after opening - and were excited. Our last visit dampened the excitement, though.

All the positive Reviews of the Osteria Al Squero are true! Located alongside a small canal behind the Accademia; situated opposite an interesting Gondola building/repair yard and serving some of the tastiest Cicchetti in Venice. The staff are competent, friendly and patient with their constant stream of multilingual clients and they take time to explain what is on show in the glass cabinets. It can get very busy but if all the seats inside are taken, it is as pleasant to partake of the refreshments outside. We ALWAYS make our way to Al Squero for at least one lunch when we are in Venice. It is reasonably priced with interesting snacks and tasty house wines - though there's a wider selection for customers with a more refined palate.

We are in Venice for my wife’s birthday and we went to this restaurant on Monday night. They sat us at a table without a reservation at the place was empty. Only one other couple that we saw. The waiter brought over some breadsticks and put about a quarter glass of champagne in each of our glasses and walked away. He was gone for over 10 minutes. When he came back he asked us if we are ready to order. We had many questions as we’ve not been to this restaurant before. We asked about the spaghetti and lobster, He said no, we’re out of that. The weather is very short with us. Actually rude. It gets better from there. We told him we would like a bowl of the minestrone soup but needed more time to look at the menu and he walked away. Another 10 minutes go by and we had been eating the stale bread sticks and there’s crumbs all over the table. When he finally came back I asked for a couple of plates maybe Some oil and balsamic. He turns around and looks at me and said you’ll get plates when I bring the soup! And he walked away. My wife’s chin hit the floor before she blurted out “What an ass.” The couple at the table next to us overheard that and turned around and said he sure is! So we knew it wasn’t just us. He came back with a bowl of minestrone soup and two plates and two spoons. Then he walked away. We looked at each other and try to figure out how we’re going to share the soup with two plates. You have a couple started laughing as they couldn’t believe it either. The plates weren’t level because they’re sitting on the crumbs and pieces of stale breadsticks. So each took a spoon and started spooning minestrone from the center of the table across the plates and into our mouths. At this point I was ready to leave but we are trying to have a romantic dinner as were celebrating her birthday. Hoping it would only get better we actually ordered dinner. When the dinner came out my steak was cold and trying to cut through it with a serrated knife was like chopping wood. The meat was veiny and tough. Being brave I actually tasted it, and it was horrible and very undercooked as I asked for medium. The other dish wasn’t much better but because we had been waiting so long to eat she actually ate it instead of starving. It wasn’t warm either. When The waiter finally came back I told my wasn’t happy with the meat and it was undercooked. He took it back the manager brought it back. Apologized for the preparation. I tasted it it was still horrible although it was warm this time. That didn’t make it any better. The other couple got up and left. We told the manager we were done, we had enough, did want to try anything else. The waiter was rude, the food was horrible, I want to pay my bill and go. Save yourself some trouble, never ever try this restaurant when in Venice. It is the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to in my entire life.Good morning, when a criticism is well constructed we take it into consideration, when as in this case everything is wrong, from the quality of the food and the service, we understand the situation and go further, for us speak of the other 1000 reviews of customers satisfied by the kindness of the waiters and food quality.
