In Italy, outside the hectic tourist spots, where zillions of tourists flock together, it is foregone conclusion that getting a good meal is a no-brainer. Italy and the Italians are obsessed with good food. But sometimes, even in the most unexpected places, you find a restaurant, where food quality, service and value for money soar even above the high food standard in Italy. Ristorante Pizzeria Al Tarcentino is one of those restaurants. Embedded in the hotel with the same name it offers a spacious outdoor seating area, beside the cosy restaurant inside. Service of the staff is hospitable, prompt and professional and prices are very reasonable. Everything is squeaky clean up to the bathrooms. But last but not least, how was the meal? I started with an excellent vitello tonnato, prepared with a delicious homemade sauce. The main course was tuna steak, grilled to perfection (a skill not all chefs master), with grilled vegetables on the side. The food was delicious and brought to our table by the waiter in a hospitable spirit. Small wonder that we visited this restaurant again twice during our holiday, after this discovery.

An old country house in a hilly area with a large garden and a covered area for dining outside during the beautiful season. Two indoor rooms with fireplace and stove and typical furnishings of the Friulian osteria. A well-stocked bar and space for a "taju
I would give a 5 for the location, setting and welcome (with a free prosecco glass). However, we were not impressed by the food, namely: eggplant parmigiana had a full layer of bacon, which I didn't like and there was no mentioning in the menu about it; the supposedly classic "tagliata di manzo" (steak) was nothing else than a cut-in-pieces very thin Viennese schnitzel, which is definitely not a steak. They don't have wine menu by bottle, serving tap wine which wasn't up to my taste, unfortunately. Another thing. The most good looking people were waiters (& the cute owner's dogs) - everyone else (the clientele) was in terrible slippers / havayanas or rubber shoes and shorts, which didn't let me enjoy the scenic view. We were dressed for a restaurant - everyone else was dressed for a backyard cheap bar, with a very thin couple of exceptions. My personal opinion - it's good for a single visit on a Tuesday night (when there is not much choice of open restaurants in the surroundings of Udine).Mi dispiace che non siate stati bene.Ma la parmigiana non ha carne e la "tagliata" è un roastbeaf in piastra ....tagliato a fette. Sull'abbigliamento dei clienti..io non discuto.I'm sorry you have not been well. But the Parmesan does not have flesh and the "cut" is a roastbeaf plating .... sliced. On clothing of clienti..io not argue.Grazie in ogni casoThanks anyway

Of all the restaurants in the area surrounding Montegnacco in Friuli, we have found the cuisine above average at Osteria di Villafredda in nearby Loneriacco. The menu includes dishes, at reasonable prices, a step beyond the usual grilled meat and other repetitious, standard fare offered in so many of the other local restaurants. The service is efficient and professional; the dining environment has rustic character. While visiting friends during annual visits to Friuli, we have eaten there on several occasions â usually on a quiet afternoon or night. The restaurant was full the last time we lunched there: it was a less-pleasant occasion. The stone walls reflect sound. If you are at a table in the back section away from tables facing the front windows, it is a bit like being in a cave: the noise of all the other people talking at the same time makes your conversing across the table both difficult and unpleasant. On the restaurant's website, click on "Cuisine" to see a photo of the dining area to avoid during a busy period â if you can.The restaurant's skimpy website (http://www.villafredda.com/index.asp)gives access to lots of lovely photos showing the building, but nothing of substance regarding its menu. In this respect, the restaurant does itself a distinct disservice. The restaurant building and its surroundings might be attractive, appealing and photogenic; however, its merits lie in the dishes offered. The website offers no details whatsoever, merely empty text expounding on the philosophy of the cook in relation to ingredients, quality, and the like â all very well but no information which you could get your teeth into (excuse the figure of speech). I know that the menu changes; however, this does not preclude listing dishes and regularly updating the website accordingly.

Backroads chose this local place for lunch on our tour of Italy and Slovenia. We enjoyed our lunch though service was slow for our group of nearly 30. The pizza was excellent and I had the chef's choice of seafood pasta: shrimp, mussels, and clams. It as very good. Service was just OK. We did appreciate the owner returning from vacation early to serve lunch to our group. She's a real character after living ten years in Queens!

The place itself is not great, a bit old fashioned, but the pizzas are good with a large variety to choose from. The pizza dough is not chewy, but stays crunchy til you've finished. It's nice that the owner pizzetaro comes over to greet and make sure all is ok! This must be the best pizzeria in the area.

Pizza molto buona, pasta croccante al punto giusto e leggera, ingredienti ottimi. Nel complesso molto digeribile. Prezzi bassi. Pizza al metro molto invitante, la proveremo presto!

The best Friulan food, so far, period. The radicchio rosso with the cicciole (seared lard) was delicate...no bitter aftertaste. The cinghilale with polenta, cooked in a slow-stewed vegetable-based sauce was phenomenal...then I had the "palle" to ask for a "primo" after the "secondo"...confusing as it may seem, the " cjarsons" dolci can be either a "primo" or "dolce"...meaning I did OK in ordering them. Two words, "pure bliss"...this place is the BEST I have had in Friuli for now. Non brave, di più! PS, for you art afficionados, take a look at what's hanging on the walls of this place! Bravissime, di nuovo!!!

This family run restaurant is located in Tarcento - a little bit difficult to find, but impossible to forget! The italian style restaurant offer a great atmosphere, the staff is very professional and polite and the food is amazing! From antipasti, primi piatti, secondi piatti till the dolci - you will not be dissapointed. For me a must: the San Daniele prosciutto, pasta of any kind, continuing with the tagliatta and finsh the dish with house made Tiramisu. A true MUST GO restaurant!
