This is the second time I’ve stayed here and love supporting a Tico family. David and his dad run the place and it’s obvious it’s a labor of love. The cabins are comfortable, we asked for a better heater and David brought us two of them. It is a cold place. The trails and waterfalls are lovely. All the hummingbirds are amazing. Great place down the road to see quetzals, at 5:30 a.m. The shower wasn’t the best, little pressure and only warm water. For the price, and the Tico hospitality, it was well worth a visit.

The Serrano Family has been the owner of the Mirador de Quetzales Lodge in the Cloud Forest since the early 90s … They have owned the land, where the Mirador de Quetzales Lodge is, since 1948 and now this is the result of their life process, a dream made true The story the family and Mirador de Quetzales Lodge goes back to those days when Eddy Serrano married young and beautiful Leonor. They were young, he was bold and full of dreams. Like in any romantic novel Eddy was a tall, strong and handsome young man. And she was petite and sweet. They got married and started living in between two volcanoes: The Turrialba and the Irazu Volcanoes… Fertile soils, chilly and foggy areas… Highlands. However, in those days the Irazu Volcano was starting to wake up after a long dormant period. The rumbling of the volcano sounded like an underground road with hundreds of oxcarts passing through it. And Leonor started to feel very afraid, day after day. It was an isolated, chilly and noisy trembl
We just returned from a trip to Costa Rica and an overnight in Mirador de Quetzalas. If you are looking to find the Quetzal this is absolutely the place to visit. Jason and his family run the resort and Jason serves as guide/Quetzal spotter. We were quite fortunate to spot several Quetzal including a group of about four males and two females. We ran around the jungle following them as they flew from tree to tree. The accommodations are basic and being at such a high elevation it is quite cold. Dress warmly for the evening as there is no heat in the rooms. Heating bottles are supplied. Dinner was very good, with a fantastic pumpkin soup. You are up early to search for these elusive birds and then return for a hearty and excellent breakfast. We only stayed overnight and did not explore the area other than to find the Quetzal - mission accomplished. Great job by Jason and everyone at Mirador.

We are a budding Eco-Lodge & Waterfall Park with accommodations ranging from covered Tent Camping, to Bunkhouses, to Glamping Tent Cabinas, and we are currently building Rustic Wooden Cabins. More upscale cabinas are on the horizon and our Retreat Center will be available for groups of up to 30 by late 2018.
This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. I highly recommend it. The hosts are super nice and always willing to help to the needs you may have. Their gardener does an amazing job as everything looks beautifully in place. Waterfall it’s impressive and very easy to get to. I’d definitely come back ♥️

Miles and miles of inexplicable Beauty. Hiking tours to any of our Ten Waterfalls are available. For people who like to hike, we have different trails that take you to each of our ten waterfalls. You will see an extraordinary variety of flora. We also have verry comfortable accommodations; Cabins, Tours, Internet, and excellent restaurant and bar.
Luckily, we stayed here only one night! We looked for a hotel near the Cloudbridge Reserve and due to the fantastic reviews on Google and TripAdvisor we booked the Talamanca Nature Reserve. Right after the check-in we were charged almost 180 USD for one night in a garden cabin. They only post the prices without tax on their website: 150 USD for a garden cabin. As a tourist I do not care about the price without tax, I only care about the final price. But of course, this tactic gets them more clients. What did we get for 180 USD / night? Definitely not breakfast, because it was not included. We got a very basic and small cabin with two beds 140x200 cm, a toilet and a small shower. Our bed was uncomfortable, we needed to wait a long time until the water got hot in the bate and the shower was only slowly drizzling. Yes, you read it correctly, we paid for all that more than we did in the Hilton Gran Hotel in San José. And in the Gran Hotel we also had breakfast included. We were considering getting dinner at the hotel and took a look at the menu. One of the cheapest items was "chicken breast" which started at 25 USD. Of course, tax and the service tip is not included, so you would pay for chicken breast 31 USD. They also had fish and steak for much higher prices. Who do they think they are? A 3 star Michelin restaurant? Given the options, we went out to a restaurant 3 km down the road and paid 20 USD for two appetizers and two main dishes. The food was very good! Instead of investing in the cabins, they invested the money in fancy doors at the entrance. Nicely done! As a tip: You have a lot of hotels in the area which costs around 60 / night and offer you just about the same standards as the Talamanca Nature Reserve. This hotel is vastly overpriced and definitely not worth it. If they would have charged 50 USD / night, I would have given them three stars. But for 180 USD / night, it's more like zero stars on my behalf. If you want to do the hikes in the Cloudbridge Reserve or in the Chirrito National Park, it makes more sense to book something around Hotel Uran.

My friend and I were looking for an economical and authentic Tico stay while visiting the Copey area, which is right in the middle of coffee country. The owners Rosie and Olman were very gracious and humble and made us feel like we were visiting our aunt and uncle. 3 meals and lodging for just $70 a night, for both of us! Meals were basic but good. A generous serving of fruit to start off breakfast was followed by Gallo pinto and eggs. The coffee, as expected, was very good. Dinner was arroz con frijoles and chicken one night and excellent breaded trout with veggies the next night. Their home and Cabinas are surrounded by beautiful gardens and a working fruit orchard. During our morning walks up the hill we actually saw a male Resplendent Quetzal, one of Costa Rica's most sought after birds among the birding community! The room was basic with a twin and a full sized bed. Gracias Rosie and Olman for a Pura Vida visit.
