While visiting this town of my Mingori ancestry, we looked at several of the restaurant options. But on a picture perfect spring day we wanted to soak up the sun while dining on the piazza. Fittingly the primary two options were Caffè Don Camillo & Caffè Peppone. A quick glance of both menus led us to choose the former.The owner served us as our waitress and was pleased to use her English and even more thrilled to learn we were from Houston where her son was working for a cruise ship. She was very engaging if at times a bit distracted as it was obvious everyone in town knew her and was striking up conversations.After dining in places like Venice & Florence, we were blown away by the value on the menu. We started off with a 9⬠platter of prosciutto that was considerably more than the two of us could manage on our own. There were several varieties all of which appealed to our American taste buds that were thirsting for flavor not found in knock-off prosciutto back home. We took the leftovers and used them for sandwiches the next day.Wanting to stay with local recipes, I went with the Lasagna Emiliana that owner explained came from this corner of Reggio Emilia. It was light on meat but the sauce and cheeses over the fresh pasta proved to be a simple classic the way we would expect a lasagna from Emilia-Romagna to taste.My wife chose a tortellini with prosciutto that again had very local origins. She couldn't wipe the smile off her face. The cream sauce was outstanding as was the cheese-filled pasta.The only negative from my wife's experience was the lack of vegetables on the menu. That was easily solved by walking across the piazza to a little store with fresh produce that happily grilled some peppers for her to put on the side of plate.One warning, don't be in a hurry. The service does seem to move at a pace that is bit unnerving for city folk. But frankly for us on vacation, the relaxed attitude was perfect. It also allowed us plenty of time to digest a well above average early evening meal at very reasonable prices.

Very nice inside, a wide place to sit outside. A fantastic list of very good wines.Arguably one of the best places in Viadana.
