The view from the Ponti is unbeatable - looking past the city walls into the valley. The service is also excellent and quite speedy by Italian standards. The menu offers classic dishes from the area including some more unusual ragu sauces (duck, rabbit, etc). While a smaller menu, everything I have had here is quite good. Its also a great place to get an aperitif or to watch the sunset over dinner.

Stopped by for a second visit this summer. The beer is great, and the service very friendly. It's located a bit off the beaten track, but it's absolutely worth taking the time to drive there! Will definitely come back another time!

This is a micro-brewery, serving scrumptious beers, and fabulous food. You can see the micro-brewery - all blue-lit stainless steel - although not very big yet. They had run out of their best brew on the night I visited with friends, but not to worry! They stock some beers made elsewhere, which are also delicious (I tasted everyone's).The menu doesn't look very exciting, but the burgers are superb, served with chips and salad, and the fish platter (for two or more) was to die for. A huge platter of prawns, langouste, squid, and calamari, perfectly cooked in a light batter, and served with lightly battered pepper, courgette and french bean strips. No chips, so very healthy!! There was so much we had to force ourselves to finish it, but we certainly weren't going to leave any behind. Unbelievable value at 30 euros for 2 of us.As we left, two plates of hunter's cinghiale stew with polenta were carried past us, which smelled heavenly, and I had to be restrained from going back in to taste some. The owner's mum is the chef, and she is fantastic. The décor leaves something to be desired - a bit cheap and cheerful, and a bit random. They need some commune flags, and/or some wooden beer barrel lids on the walls, to dampen the echo, but hey-ho, you can't eat or drink the décor.I've been coming yearly to Volterra for five years or more, and have never noticed this place before, despite walking past it frequently, so keep your eyes peeled. I can't wait to come back next year.
