What a lovely find on a freezing cold day in January. Very warm welcome & the food rustic, fresh & home-cooked. Presentation was also excellent. Only house wine available by the jug - would be nice if there was a choice of bottles. Look forward to returning! Town & environs amazing!Thank you. We look forward again in our restaurant. Best regards

L'Altoplano is one of about 10-12 small restaurants in this amazing ancient village in the Monte Sibillini national park. The village itself set on a hill into the middle of an extensive bowl surrounded by mountains--incredible. This restaurant is a poor choice-a few rickety tables, zero atmousphere, half the menu items not available and everything rather high priced for what it was. Best to select another place if you visit this extraordinary spot.

Great experience with a family run restaurant. We had a fun time trying to speak Italian. The restaurant did have their menu translated into English which helped in deciding what we wanted. Overall, great experience and nice to contribute to the local economy which was hurt by last years earthquakes.

Arriving in Castelluccio at around 1.00 on a beautiful day we decided to have lunch here. We had an outdoor table across the road from the restaurant with an amazing view over the Piano Grande and the road we had come on.We opted for the speciality lentil soup which was crammed full of delicious lentils. Service was enthusiastic and prompt and the fresh bread was very good, particularly the walnut bread. However our main memory will be of being able to sit there in the sunshine with that wonderful view.

This small and welcoming ristorante provides genuinely home cooked style food, from the tiny kitchen within. From the photos on the walls it's clear that generations of the same family have kept the tradition alive. I say 'basic' in the title as this should not be confused for a trattoria. It serves very simple food but you don't have to wait too long; I had the grilled sausages on lettuce leaves and it was literally just that, nothing more. Breads were given after seating and drinks order taken, but one had to ask for balsamic vinegar which was on standby. Friendly and attentive waitresses with some speaking good English too - there's a bilingual menu which is helpful for all tourists. I'd recommend this ristorante for someone not looking for a long, drawn out lunch. It's ideal for a quick bite to eat and popular with the locals unlike the pricier eateries.

I would strongly reccommend people to visit Mariella and her family and be their guests even for just one meal and one night. Mariella leads from the kitchen, her husband, Ulisse, at the grill and her daugther, Francesca, serving at the table and also helping out in preparing the food. Simple and genuine dishes prepared as you do in an Italian home. Nearly all of the produce used by the Locanda is home produce from Mariella's family farm, So it's biological and at 0 kms. Queen of the table and of the area is the Lentil. Castelluccio produces and exceptional lentil and the way Mariella brings it to the table is simple and very very tasty. There are about 6 double rooms upstairs all newly furnished with taste. The bathrooms are spotless and just the right size. The surroundings are incredible. If you like hiking you could spend at least a week doing all the trails that are offered here. If you like motorcycling the roads in this are are amazing, many curves and incredible scenery. We spent New Year's eve here and Ulisse, put up a magnificent firework display. What a way to start 2013!

If you find yourself in Castellucio then a meal here is a must. They are very good at local dishes based on lentils. The service is good. They do get very busy at lunch time which is a good sign. A lot of locals eat here.

We visited the earthquake devastated town of Norcia not realising this town was so badly affected. The spirit of the people is encouraging and we wanted to stay for lunch . The town is still well worth a visit and the townsfolk can be encouraged by tourists visiting and spending in the town during these difficult times. This Locanda is very welcoming and was well patronised during lunch. I had a local speciality the Wild Boar ragu pasta . If you are ever in Umbria , do yourself a favour and try this dish . I almost licked the plate . I do not remember what the little man had but he was seriously interested in my pasta once he had had his first try of it.
