when a superior restaurants is bought out by a chain. My husband and I have enjoyed Zafferano for many years now and ALWAYS had Christmas lunch there. The manager, Orlando, ran the restaurant with precision and had the best service we have ever had. Sadly, a German chain bought it out and brought in their own staff and our experiences have been less than stellar.Food has suffered and the service is very poor. So unfortunate as the setting is beautiful and the indoor dining room is lovely.Dear Ms Kerry Thanks for your review It is really sad to receive this negative review with so much delay ,your experience was made in December !We want to inform you and all guests that since then our RISTORANTE ZAFFERANO has been completely renovated in furniture and design Our Chef Vito Quarto is coming back (he use to work 8 years with the old management)We invite you to visit us once more , We'll let Sandro welcoming you We also wanted to clarify that the hotel has not been taken over by a german chain but owned by a family that is also the owner of one of the most prestigious hotels in the world, the family has Swiss origins but they are italian.Regards

We had dinner here a few times. Especially in the weekends it can be very busy. But no need to go early, it is open every day until 2 in the morning. The pizzas are large and delicious, but also the pasta and hamburgers taste good. Every time we ate we got offered an aperitif afterwards. Lot of parking space around (tankstation) . Be aware the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.

We were recommended this restaurant by a good friend who told this was the best seafood in the area. We arrived on a Wednesday evening to find an empty restaurant and to our surprise when we opened the menus there was only meat dishes. We thought we must be in the wrong place and contemplated leaving, which would have been a big mistake! We quickly changed gear from expecting fish to selecting from traditional Umbrian meat dishes. Everything we chose was excellent, ragu served on perfectly cooked pici for primi and secondi of succulent osso buco for my wife and lamb cutlets for myself. Service was very attentive by a very helpful young waitress who spoke perfect English. She went on to explain that fish was only served on Friday, Saturday and Monday ...... cue a second visit that Friday.This time we booked a table, which was fortunate as the restaurant was full. We were recognised from the previous visit and received a very friendly greeting. Now the thinking behind the different menus for different days becomes clear .... only the freshest seafood is served. Carpaccio of tuna; perfection! Gratinated scallops; delightful! Seabass; brimming with flavour! Sole; delicate! The atmosphere on this night was cheerful, with a hum of conversation and clearly a favorite of the locals, Everyone seemed to be eating an endless stream of different fish dishes many not on the menu, oh to be in the know!By now we were hooked (so to speak) and came back the following Friday for more sea-fresh fish. I had a swordfish steak (recommended by the waiter and not on the menu) to die for.For us this was the find of the holiday. We will be back when we are next in the area and be happy to work from either menu. Just note what day of the week it is!

To call this a pizzeria is not telling the full story - The menu is extensive and everything is freshly cooked . Sure - they seem to do a steady local trade in take away pizzas. And thats not suprising - they are excellent ! Dont be put off by the fact that the restaurant shares a site adjacent to a petrol station. Its very much a restuarant used by locals - there's nothing flash about it .There doesn't need to be - the food does all the talking - this is homely food, in homely surroundings . The value is excellent .

Pizza made with passion and first real quality ingredients. You can take away or eat on site in a very friendly atmosphere. Very light pizza in many different flavors plus italian specialities such as roman rise arancini and fried vegetables.

Worth a trip to - short walk from walled town of Citta but near handy car parks - for a more casual supper. Brilliant antipasti; and a lot of it, lovely fish and great pizza choices.

The experienced crew met us at door. The menu was in two parts; one short single page with 5 primi and 4 secondi to choose from. There were also 5 contorni. The second menu is 8 pages of pizza (4-5 Euro each), and bruschetta.We had a white pasta primo (1), and a secondo Oven roasted Rosemary chicken (1), and roasted peppers. With bread, water, and the Coperto the bill was 20 Euro. This was so much food we had to bypass the gelato stands on our way back to our room.The food was delicious, and homemade by experienced chefs. I doubt that we'll go anywhere else during our stay in Citta Della Pieve.

I used to say you can't get a bad meal in Italy, but the meal we had at Dandy's was the exception. It must have been an off night since we went based on Trip Advisor reviews. We went on a not busy week night, but the service was slow and spotty and the food was not what we expected. We were a large group, but split up into smaller tables. Interestingly no one in our group enjoyed their meals. I had the gnocchi which did not have the ridges to hold the sauce, but were instead little lumps of really hard, undercooked dough which I did not finish. None of us wanted to go beyond the past course so I don't know if other choices would have been better.

Pizzas are delicious, very thin, crispy and big and a fantastic bargain. We have taken their pizzas to go back to the villa we are staying in and it is an economical and super yummy lunch. We have been in many spots in Italy over the past two weeks and this pizza is definitely up there in terms of quality and deliciousness. Very nice owner/staff as well. They are open for lunch and then close for awhile in the afternoon until dinner time. Highly recommended.Grazie grazie grazie, tornate presto, vi aspettiamo alla Taverna del Perugino
