Gubbio’s history pre-dates the Roman Empire to when it was, as Ikuvium, a major town for the ancient Umbrians. Now a city of 30,000, Gubbio has historical attractions spanning many periods. The 14th-century Palazzo dei Consoli houses Umbria’s largest collection of Roman artifacts. Gubbio’s most important date is May 15. Every year for centuries on that day, the Corsa dei Ceri has taken place: Three teams of twenty, each carrying three large wooden statues, race through the streets.

Castello di Baccaresca is in a rural part of Umbria, just outside Gubbio. We visited from 9/7-12/2019, with a rental car from Rome. The view from the hotel out over the mountains is stunning. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful, and skilled. We like to try our Italian, but most of the staff speaks English. The accommodations were comfortable (beds might be a little stiff for some, but fluffy comforters acted as mattress tops), clean, fresh, with modern bathrooms. Laundry is done for sensitive skin, for people allergic to dyes & fragrances. The restaurant has extraordinary food at reasonable prices, and the kitchen staff is very professional and accommodating (they made up a board of meats, cheeses and bread for us one night on the terrace, offered wine glasses even when we brought our own wines etc.). They offer a cooking class (we did pasta with a group of 6 people) which was fun and very informative. There's a small store nearby with delicious meats, cheeses, wines, fresh fruits & vegetables. If you can, see Gubbio (climb the trail up Mount Ingino to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo, or take the funivia), Assisi, Perugia, Ancona/Portonovo. Wish we had time to rent a kayak and try the sea at Portonovo. The winery Arnaldo Caprai (near Assisi) is well worth the tour & tasting. They have a very friendly staff, their sagrantino is extraordinary, and the setting is breathtaking. Florence is about 2.5 hours away, about the same as Rome. GPS and/or good road maps are essentials.

Ristorante pizzeria nel centro di Gubbio. Tutto il menù disponibile interamente anche in versione senza glutine!
when I enter a restaurant with an Amex sticker on the door I do not expect to be told by the manager that we cannot do it. He says all other cards will work but not Amex. This line has been played on me before and it is all a con. I asked him to remove the Amex sticker and he just got angrier and nasty.Well we we also charged for Coperto and we never received bread like other tables. My wife enjoyed her tagliatelle but my pasta meal was a little flight and average at best.On a public holiday this place was quite full. I certainly would never return, particularly with the negativity experienced on paying the bill.

In Gubbio the Bosone Garden has been happily restructured and organized in the Ancient Raffaelli Palace, the patrician family of Gubbio that boasts big names, from which stands out two big figures: Ungaro and Novello Bosone, to whom Petrarca dedicated the

This restaurant is located right by the Bargello Palace and the famous fountain which is reputed to send people mad. Fairly informal, having a running joke with the young waiter, my Italian and his English both poor but goodwill gets you through. Some good wine options at reasonable prices, try the local Gubbio wine. Good pasta dishes though the serves are small, excellent pizza.

Our Italian hosts tools us here, probably because of the ambiance rather than the exceptional food. The food was still very good (pizza and anti pasti) and the service very good. Overall a very good experience but if Seeking a culinary experience look elsewhere

The proprietor, Tino, did a nice job of taking acre of us. We had dinner with locals, so we did not do the ordering. We had some great wine and food, but not totally sure what it all was. Many courses and then several interesting after dinner drinks that were new to us. Sorry I do not know what much of it was, so cannot recommend much of it.

There aren't many restaurants where you can get dinner for two, including a litre of fairly decent house white for £21 these days. After a few days of excess the simple fare of gnocchi and pizza were just perfect. Nice ambiance and friendly staff made for a perfect evening. The house breathalyser was a quirky piece of kit for a town which is mostly vehicle free. Loved it!
