Recommended in Lonely Planet and elsewhere. It is a small gem, creative and sophisticated, far beyond the usual "cucina tipica." A real find and definitely worthy of TA attention.
Trattoria Ressi is located on what appears to be a dark alley. But inside is a comfortable and welcoming space with high barrel-vaulted brick ceilings and cheerful yellow walls. Christina (who cooks) and her husband Marco (who works the front) have run the restaurant for ten years, and they are both delightful . The food is outstanding - sophisticated interpretations of local cuisine, more like a big-city restaurant than a "cucina tipica" trattoria. It was one of the best meals we had in Italy. If you don't know Italian, though, bring your phrasebook - the menu is only in Italian and Marco's English is limited.

If you are lucky AND you find a sunny day this restaurant can be a good option. The service is friendly. Risotto is good but realy heavy (peperoni e mascarpone). The cotoletta alla milanese is ,maybe, the best dishes . Potato only sufficient. Sweet good. Wine carta is good (Barbera or Lambrusco was my choise) .

I have been a dozen times over the year and in my opinion continues to be the best place to eat in Pavia. Located across the river Ticino, at walking distance from the center has two comfortable and pleasing rooms. The menu is regional and changes often. All the risotti I tried were very good and so is the beef, imported from Val di Chiana. Excellent is also the bollito and some of the pasta. The service, provided by the owner and friendly staff is excellent. The wine list is limited and the price is very reasonable

With friends I was in Pavia on at midday on a Monday and in need of lunch. There were a limited number of restaurants open and La Torre degli Aquila was easy to find. We nabbed the last table available and afterwards saluted our good fortune as the hospitality and food is of the highest quality. The restaurant is very traditional, and the clientele seemed to be exclusively local patrons who I suspect come in for lunch on a regular basis. My companions had relatively light meals while I was tempted by the parmesan risotto with Osso Bucco. It was outstanding, full of flavour and one of the best homely meals I had on my trip. We stuck to the local red wine by the carafe and that also seemed a good quality for the price. The next time I find myself in Pavia I will return.
