We stopped for lunch in Cortemaggiore because it is halfway between Florence and Milan and not far off the autostrada. It turned out to be the most interesting meal we had in Italy. The restaurant and it surroundings were not very impressive on the outside. However, inside it was small, simple but pleasant. The staff spoke no English and there was no menu. It appeared that there two choices, mixed meats (cold cuts) or mixed cheeses. We chose the meats. There was a homemade frame on each table that was used to hold the platter of meats. As well as the meat, a platter with 8 or 9 small bowls containing sauces, artichokes, olives, etc, and a basket of bread and freshly cooked crostini were provided. There was a choice of red or white wine which was delivered in a carafe. On the table were two ceramic bowls which I assumed were to put the food in, but no wine glasses. I was about to ask for glasses when an English-speaking lady customer explained that the bowls were for the wine. The quantity of meats was good and the quality of the food and the wine was very good. The place filled up, but none of the customers were tourists, other than us. The cost was 40 euros for the two of us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you happen to be passing through.

Great quaint osteria we frequented while waiting for our Culatello Museum tour. The fresh pasta was divine, the steak tartare was exquisite and the culatello... As expected... was the star of the show. We loved our experience here and topped it off with a tiramisù to share. It was a bright, bold yellow color which stemmed from the freshest eggs coming from their well-fed diet. Be sure to enjoy at least one meal here if you're ever in the area... You won't/can't be disappointed.

I found the prices very honest, the staff extremely kind. Torta frutta and salumi were good, while I found very anonymous the first courses (both the gramigna and tortelli). Desserts were standard. The place is quite recent and I think it still has to find its own identity, insisting more on the inn side than on that restaurant. For example, I found the insistence with which the raw materials are explained exaggerated (sometimes annoying), praising their superb qualities that frankly it's hard to find when tasting the dish. I think there is a good starting point on which refining the identity of the restaurant

Excellent culatello and cured meat.. . We should have opted for the cure meat course instead of the land course...... Guess they are a lot more outstanding in meat curing than their fine dining skills...Nothing extraordinary otherwise in our entire meal..Nice ambience though..

The restaurant has a long history, which began in the 50s with Franco and Filomena Pedretti with Osteria Roncole; revived in 1993 by the grandson Carduccio Pedretti (now owner with his wife Monica) with the renovation and reopening of the restaurant, prop
100 m from Verdi's birthplace you'll find this beatiful little hotel and restaurant. Nice rooms with bathroom, tipical style of Emilia Romagna, air condition (very important in the Po valley), absolutely quiet. You only hear the bell of the church, where Verdi played the organ at the age of 4. Fantastic meal, good price. Don't miss torta fritta with culatello and tortelli d'erbetta. Monica and Carduccio are very nice owners. They fulfill every wish! We come here nearly every year. It's always like coming home.

Visiting i luoghi Verdiani Busseto and Sant 'Agata, we came across this little restaurant in the nearby village of Frescarolo. What a pleasant surprise and well worth the few km drive. For lunch, come early, as it filled up with locals and tourists alike. There was no menu, so we stuck to the waitresses recommmendations: Piatto di prosciutto e salame, pasta, anatra e faraona al forno con patatine, insalata, vino Lambrusco della casa, acqua, caffè, digestivo, pane e coperto (all for two). Everything prepared fresh and of excellent quality. Total: ⬠50 ! What more can you say! We will definitely come again!
