Nestled in the beautiful coastal scenery of Waterville, County Kerry, the Smugglers Inn has been a family run business since 1980. Henry Hunt, Chef/Proprietor, prides himself on the variety of delicious locally sourced produce available in his restaurant.
After a day of travelling around we were driving back to waterville and seen the sign for the smugglers inn so we drove round and the setting was amazing and the menu outside said they served bar food and a la carte. So we went in and we hadn't booked so they were very polite in giving us a table then we were moved from one table to another which was fine. When we looked at the menu they had only given us the an a la carte menu as we didn't like anything on it we had to ask could we have the bar menu I dont think it went down to well then as I had just had a stomach operation I asked could I have a childs menu well I felt like a second class citizen it was obvious if u weren't American or didn't order off the a la carte menu u weren't considered at all. When we finished our dinner which was lovely we sat for so long while empty tables were being cleaned and re set even though no more people seemed to be arriving as it was getting late no one came near us to clear our dinner plates away after 40 minutes I asked could we have a dessert menu for my husband I was only wanting a pot of tea as I was full I was so disgusted I just said to my husband let's go give our money to some other establishment were we feel welcome so we asked for the bill and paid and left. I believe near judge its book by its cover we probably have more money than most of the Americans in there. I will not be back. I cant fault the food I give them praise for that but not their hospitality.

My three sisters and myself arrived at the restaurant at about 8:50 pm - we were informed by our waitress that the kitchen closes at 9 pm but bar is Ione till 11 pm. She quickly checked with the cook who said that we could order. Had the salmon while others in group had burger; Irish stew; cod ... all very good. Our waitress was very helpful; courteous and attentive-very pleasant experience and happy that they could accommodate our late arrival.

Party of 2 came in for lunch, the cafe was half full. and was offered a very small table part way across the entrance which would have barely held two plates. There were several larger tables spare with other parties of 2 occupying them. So I asked if we could have a larger table and was told by a very rude lady that she was saving the tables for groups of 4. At that we left! Very disappointed - very poor customer service - donât seem to want your custom - avoid!
