Reviews on Argentinean food in Uspallata, Province of Mendoza, Argentina. Uspallata is a village, and an administrative district, in Argentina in a scenic location on the road which crosses the Andes between Mendoza and Santiago in Chile. It is located 100 km (62 mi) west of Mendoza and was once served by the now disused Transandine Railway which passed through the town on its way from Mendoza to Los Andes in Chile. There are several items of interest in and around the village including "las bovedas", somewhat strangely egg-shaped kilns dating from the early 17th century which were used to extract gold, silver, zinc, copper and other metals from minerals mined nearby. Worth a brief visit as they are only approx 1 1/2 km from town, complete with a small museum, notes include the fact that some of the refractory bricks can still be seen with "Rufford Stourbridge" from the English West Midlands stamped on them; a brief reminder of Britain´s industrial heritage. The road to the Chilean border incorporates some of the most dramatic scenery in the region, the Andean mountains in this part being part of the backdrop of the highest peak out of the ANDES, Aconcagua at almost 7,000 metres above sea level. There is a brief glimpse of the stunning mountain from the road some distance from another point of interest, an ochre coloured bridge spanning the Rio Mendoza 72 km from Uspallata that seems to have been made from sulphur-bearing hot springs.

After being totally ignored at El Rancho, we crossed the street and went to this restaurant. They pretty much ignored us as well. Didn't greet. Didn't bring menus. Didn't treat us as their customers. Three Argentine ladies next to us were about to leave and came up to us and said: "Ignorant waiters, bad food, don't eat here".

We asked our driver to take us to a restaurant that the locals use and he took us here. It was excellent. We had steak sandwiches which were well cooked and tender. He also brought out snacks to start and the chimichurri was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A great atmosphere. We'd definitely recommend it.

Es un bar ubicado justo en el centro de la pequeña localidad de Uspallata, se puede comer pizzas, picadas, sandwichs con muy buenos precios. Tiene mesas afuera donde disfrutar del atardecer en la precordillera, con buena atención y buena música

A classic stop in your way to Chile, this local restaurant offers the option of either sit and eat, buy something from the grocery, grab some already cooked meals or buy some souvenirs from a very large selection of regional products. The portions are not that big and the food seemed reheated. We pick up some empanadas to go as well and they were very small and not properly filled. Prices are high and quality is no good but with the lack of choices down the road, lots of people make the mistake of stopping here. The only thing good about this place its the possibility of buying some regional products but besides that I would totally avoid this restaurant.

Our group visited this establishment for a light snack whilst on our travels and we were not disappointed in what we received. We ordered a selection of empanadas and we all agreed that they were delicious and so reasonably priced. OK the decor was not fantastic but in went with the style of the establishment. Well worth a visit.

So we took a cabaña just north of Uspallata in order to do the Aconcagua base camp hike the next day. We were a little cranky from the dayâs drive from Mendoza, the heat, poor hiking info in Potrerillos, etc. BUT the surroundings were stunning and we needed a bite before shutting down for the day. We could have gone back down into Uspallata for a parilla, but we noted the reviews on TA for this place. Driving to it, we at first went past it (itâs near km 13, low red building on the right) because only the 6-room hotel that houses it is signed. No regrets - we drove on for 10 km at dusk among mountainscapes that were absolutely magical. And when we finally made our way back, we turned out to be the only diners. The front desk man went and found the chef, who came over to the restaurant and made us a superb meal of trout w black butter and a Sicilian eggplant dish. The charge was embarrassingly modest. And the setting is another world. It was dark when we stepped outside again to an explosion of stars. You wonât be sorry to stop in here. Highly recommended.Muchas gracias .si nuestro restaurant es unico .con vistas unicas .en un lugar unico Muchas gracias

Our server was excellent very attentive, polite and timely. We shared the filet with pepper sauce with fries and had two beef empanadas as starters. Food was really good for a small town eatery. We also ordered the house wines and the pours were equivalent to twice the norm! Extra bonus for us! We arrived early in the afternoon and the inside seating was packed. Strange for the time of the day as we expected it to be less crowded. We opted for the outside seating by choice. Beautiful day, food and service!

Good food and reasonable prices. Went for the day to Uspallata and were recommended to go to La Juanita for supper. The food was very good and interesting... And although not exactly easy to find along a dark road... It was worth the effort. Exceptional empanadillas (small meat pastries) done on a grill and you get the impression most things on the menu will be good.
