The town is deserted-The restaurant was not! We had an 8:00 reservation-did I really need one? I'm so glad I reserved! By 8:30, the restaurant was full-many locals enjoying a Friday night seafood dinner-and the food was truly delicious. We rarely get fresh oysters and my husband enjoyed them very much. The fritto misto was delicious as well-lightly battered and full of octopus, shrimp, and vegetables. We'd eat there again. The staff was friendly and efficient as well.

First the positive things: The bar is nice, not over decorated, good style, the young servant was friendly and really charming, she asked if she could help with the menue. We had tapas: salmon, cheese and fried chicken were good, the quality of the food was good. Now the less positive things: Beer prices are (as nearly everywhere in Italy) extraordinary (5€ up fur 35cl!), also the prices for the tapas in relation to their quantity! Be careful: If you've ever been in a tapa bar in Spain you will be very disappointed. The variety of tapas there is much bigger (vegetables, potatoes, etc.) and the tapas are much, much bigger. The croquettas at BBQ were only one thrird of the size you get in Spain! The red wine in bottle by the way was about 5 degrees too warm! Typical for a bar there is an ongoing carpet of bar jazz music, soft and smooth, but they should avoid to play Prince's Purple Rain in a "cool bar music" version! Conclusion: You can go there, spend some money on what they think are tapas in Italy and appreciate the nice smile of the sweet servant!

We went with friends for pizza. The pizzas were good with a variety of tasty toppings but some of us couldn't eat it a whole pizza as it was too filling. We could not resist the desserts, they were wonderful!

The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and the people working there are very helpful and knowledgeable. The food portions are generous and a good menu with plenty of choices. I ordered seafood and can honestly say it was the best and freshest I have ever eaten. I had a mixed platter and everything was just perfect.my husband had some very good meat including steak tartar which he said was the best he had every eaten... I cant wait to go back again.

Really cool, upmarket place in an unexpected area. The food is divine and the service great. As it was summer, we sat (along with everyone else there that night) under the pergolas set up to resemble a covered courtyard. Very pretty. The presentation of the dishes was also faultless. A work of art. The food itself, cooked to perfection. A little more expensive but worth it for the quality. The only reason I give it 4*s was the amount of food. The portions were quite small. Luckily I wasn't so hungry and so it was just right for me - this time. Will definitely go again and I now wish I had had the Agnello di Zeri. Next time, perhaps?

It is well worth the expensive cab ride into the hills above Massa. Il Trillo has a little parking lot, if you are an intrepid driver. Still, I would rather tackle the impressive wine list when someone else is responsible for getting me safely home or to my hotel. We all have our own standards and perspectives. I only rate 5 to 10% of my reviews as excellent and really look for those 1 to 2% of venues that I find to be nearly magical-like this one! Readers of my reviews should know by now that we cherish dining experiences that are truly exceptional and evidence of the pinnacle of culinary talent. One should respect the many chefs who daily turn out solid and well crafted dishes. But as with music and sports, only a few are either true originals or so talented that they can capture a brilliant variation on the tried and true recipes. Of course, a devotion to the very best ingredients, an assembly of a wait staff that cares and performs at a similar high level, and an ambiance and setting that cossets and inspires their guests helps staging the show. Il Trillo has them all in spades. Being able to dine outside under their flowers and lemon trees is splendid and memorable. The entire menu sounded tempting, but my wife and I both chose a lovely pumpkin soup with black truffles, tortellini filled with pears and pecorino cheese in a saffron sauce with pistachios and a masterful duck breast in a sangiovese reduction sauce. We went our separate ways on desserts, but my passion fruit semifreddo and chocolate with a garnish of berries was spectacular. From a local, I understand this restaurant started as a well liked but modest osteria. It appears to have grown in both stature and sophistication without losing the warmth and genuine hospitality that merits success. Perhaps too informal to rate a Michelin Star, the kitchen is performing at a level that deserves one.We are so glad we made the effort to get here. We will be back!

Street food from florence and and other part of italy

Reviewed By Barbara M

This rather nice, spacious ‘sandwich’ bar in the pedestrianised centre of Massa (with indoor and outdoor seating) offers an awful lot more choice than mere panini. We were en route home from Florence and knowing hubby enjoys good tripe I thought we should make a slight detour from the autostrada to check it out. It was an excellent decision. While many take the panini option, we decided to have a ribolito (more than acceptable) followed by excellent tripe for hubby and a splendid tuna salad for myself. With bread, a bottle of wine, water and coffee it came to circa €35 – most acceptable. Service is cheery and prompt. Food allergies and intolerances are noted and respected – thank you! Both Italian and English are spoken and finding a parking space close by is not difficult. Consider!

We found this restaurant from tripadvisor which had received the best rating of all restaurants in Marina di Massa. The place looked very conventional, it was located outside the tourist areas, and heavily favored by local Italian tourists/residents. On the contrary from most restaurants in the nearby area - which could only and/or were willing to provide service in italian - the chef was very helpful and could go through the menu in english. The food was fresh and prepared with very high standard. Prices were also moderately low when considering the pricy incredients and large portions. Overall the experience was exquisite, and we went there back2back nights even though our stay in Marina di Massa was short.Don’t be put away of the looks of the place or the queues gathered at around 8pm, this place is an awesome place to eat fantastic and healthy seafood with a relatively low cost. Apparently they are opening another restaurant in Viareggio in the near future...
