An Tearmann

This is a local café and gift shop set up by the Camphill communities of Ireland, a charitable venture which supports people with leaning difficulties. It is part of a larger venture to the rear of the café which provides accommodation, farming activities, food market and various other artisan ventures. There is also a nature trail (free) which is highly recommended which we have reviewed separately.Everyone in the café is very friendly and we had breakfast here after staying at the Rooms at Bardon’s next door. Food portions are not particularly large but what was provided was good.

The main dining room is set up cafeteria-style, with long tables and benches. But don't let that fool you. The food is not only abundant but delicious. My ham and cheese sandwich was a chewy roll stuffed with thick-but-tender slices of ham and flavourful cheese. I had the opportunity to sample several versions of tomato chutney, also known as Ballymaloe relish, while I was in Ireland, but the Tinahely Farm Shop version (which is for sale in the shop itself) was by far the tastiest. Everyone in my party would agree with that opinion. The Farm Shop itself is a delightful little space filled with interesting objects, gifts, books and food. The entry is off a courtyard designed to charm, and inviting the visitor to sit and stay for awhile.
