The guide "Il Mangiarozzo" claims this trattoria is n.5 out of the ten best in Italy. So...after booking a table for 2 we drove 150km to try it out for lunch. Arrived at 1pm sharp, place was totally empty, the welcome was a bit cold or let's say indifferent...sat down and we were given one menu for two people and wine list. Bad start. No bread was served, the house wine arrived (good) the two pastas, one with zaffron, ricotta and bacon (light taste but a bit stuffy - too much ricotta) the other was a short pasta white Amatriciana (very good home made pasta, great oil but bacon tooooo salty). The meats were good quality but average...did not have deserts. How can this be n.5 in Italy? Maybe, we always say that: It was the wrong day. By 2pm the place was full, which is good. The good side is that the check was very honest (41 Euros for 2).They serve pizza. Nice private parking but not worth 300km round trip. Too bad.

Rifugio della Rocca offers a menu of traditional, local dishes, prepared with passion and love by our chef and respecting the traditions of Abruzzo. We always use local products, chosen among the best in the area, such as ricotta cheese made in Calascio,
We came back after a 1-year hiatus, and the restaurant is even nicer and friendlier. The staff managed to serve my 8y old his favorite dish (salsiccie) although it wasn't on the menu. Bravo!

A family run restaurant which we would thoroughly recommend - it seemed to be open more than others in the village and was very welcoming - they seemed to be closed when we went down (it was early evening) but they saw us through the kitchen window and opened up, presumably early, other diners then arrived. The food was good quality, home cooked and fair choice.

I ate here a few times for lunch. The pastas that I enjoyed were very good, the house wines were also quite good, and the prices are very reasonable.

this bar/bistro wouldn't be out of place in any large city. Very sophisticated in a very understated way. The couple who run it do everything, all food is prepared behind the bar, simple but good, plates of assorted cured meat and cheeses bruschetta etc. and excellent local wine. We ate there for both lunch and dinner, prices very reasonable. You share tables with other folk but it all adds to the atmosphere.

'La Locanda sul Lago' was born in 1930 as a barn and municipal mill. After this, it was the first restaurant in Santo Stefano, lovingly managed since the '70s by Lina, also known as' Pentolina', who together with his brother and his friend began to Cook a
We stayed for 3 days here in a pretty setting, next to a small lake, in a luscious valley growing lentils (a local speciality), with some very musical birds. The young friendly team offer local specialities, with a lot of meat, but were very creative in offering vegetarian alternatives. Next to the house is a small garden with plenty of options to lounge around as the day draws to a close and drink cool aperitivi, before the evening meal. The village of Santo Stefano is just a few minutes walk away and it is great to see how the damage caused by the last earthquake is being carefully repaired. Even the family dog made us feel welcome, although my wife is usually a bit worried about our four-footed friends. At the end of May our walks were easy to follow despite the rare use of signposts and the wild flowers a pleasure by the wayside. All in all, well worth the drive to get here.

Although I was not too impressed with the food, I was impressed by the service: because their menu is in Italian only, the waiter will recite all its dishes on the menu (there are quite a few!) in English for you, as if he were reciting a poem. Everything he brought to the table was followed by a nice smile , hopeful we would like the food. He checked on us to make sure we enjoyed it.This was very welcoming, unlike other places I have found. The food is all right, very typical but not for my taste. One of us had pasta with "guanciale " which was way too fat and left most of it - but this food is typical of the area and if you like fat, you may well like it. Arrosticini were also ok and their bruschettas were quite unusual.I would go back just because of the atmosphere

The Elixir of the Poet, our home, our Life; through the skilled mastery of Mrs. Barbara and Mr. Andrea, owners and chefs, offer their guests a path of taste and refinement for the palate. Tradition and knowledge come together in a just marriage. The old k
The motto of the husband-and-wife owners, Andrea and Barbara Piccinini, is âOspiti, non Clientiâ, and from the moment we walked in to this tiny restaurant we felt as if we were welcomed into their home. While Barbara did her magic in the kitchen, Andrea brought us many amazing dishes, each with an explanation as to what was what, and what came from where. There wany small servings, each as different and as delicious as the previous â and all examples of the local cuisine. Most of the ingredients came from local vegetable gardens, and much came in the form of wild herbs and vegetables gathered by Andrea from the nearby hills. Here are some of the tastings: Tomatoes with wild fennel; eggplant served with fresh pear; locally-made ricotta cheese with pistachio nuts; roasted pepperoni with potatoes; zucchini and carrot soup with barley; grilled cheese with honey and hazelnuts; barley risotto with wild herbs, almonds and lemon rind. We drank a delicious Cerasuolo rosé and a hearty red Montepulciano dâAbruzzo.Yes, exact Guests of our little house, we thank you for your words. The commitment to always do well and better.A dear greeting Mr Miguel!! ^ _ ^A & B.
