The TRACAMUNDANA is a restaurant and pintxos bar. Traditional basque cuisine with avant garde and fusion accents. Quality and well presented dishes with a reasonable price.
We dined at Tracamundana on a Friday night, on arrival the front bar had live music. The restaurant is towards the rear but part of the area has tables for bar diners. The menu is typically Basque but does feature the elusive vegetables in the form of a rather good plate of grilled mixed vegetables. Recomended as a shared starter or to accompany what will be a meat or fish dominated main course. Crusty white bread comes with a modest pool of reasonable quality olive oil. There is a good selection of good quality wines by the glass as they use a special device that maintains the cork seal on the bottle but allows the wine out through a hollow needle. The octopus leg starter was one of the best I have had (I am working on having had all 8 at some time). It was accompanied by another rare Basque restaurant item, nicely roasted and salted baby potatoes. My wife's hake was fairly standard for the region. My boned sucking pig was good, tender pink meat, not too dry or fatty. Accompanied by two pieces of sweet potato. Overall, we felt that the food, whilst good, was below what we would have expected in San Sebastian. Maybe a higher grade restaurant for really good food is needed. Still, change (just) from â¬100 for two.

Rotisserie for cooking open style chickens with carbon. Very big space for children with basket, fronton and western area. Takeaway.

Incredibilmente divine.

We found this restaurant following comments on this media and must say it exceeded our expectations. Xixario is a small restaurant close the riverbank with a traditional decor and a clear emphasis on fish. The fish is grilled outside and served with a simple but most delicous seasoning including olive oil, lemon/vinegar and garlic. They serve no potatoes, just bread, but that is quite enough: the sauce is so good we wanted to clean every bit of it with the bead provided. We ordered monkwish and sea bream, two medium-sized ones for our family. Both were cooked perfecly, soft and juicy, just as one could wish. This is aruably the best fish meal we have ever had outside our own Baltic waters! If you are anywhere near Orio, I recommed you give Xixario a try. Service is friendly, good English spoken and the recommeded wine, local Txakoli was a perfect match for the fish.If everything was so perfect, why just 4 points? Because of yhe price. With a couple of salads and wines&drinks, our meal for 2 adults, 2 kids cost us almost 200e. For the quality we had that was not totally unreasonable, but more we were expecting (the price of fish listed per kilo is always a bit challenging to estinate) and more one may consider fair as Donostia with its amazing delicacies is just 20 minutes away. The same budget there would qive you access to Michelin stars and pintxo places with equally high standard. Hence my 4 points. But still: if chance had not thrown us in Xixario, I would consider myself missing one top-of-the-line fish dining experience!

We wanted to visit Michelin restaurants in San Sebastian. However, most of them were closed in January and Monday/Tuesday. Hotel recommended this restaurant for dinner. It is not close to city centre and the taxi ride is about EUR10 from old town. Items in menu are simple. Seafood and beef are their specialties. We ordered scrambled eggs and fish soup as starters. Both were very good. We had grilled fish and grilled beef steak as main with side dishes and they were excellent too. However, their portions are quite big for us. Its a pity that we were not able to finish all. Dishes were not fancy but they are real good food.I must mention the excellent service of the staff. Imagine the restaurant is 80% filled on a Tuesday evening and there were only 3 staff running around. They were enthusiastic, attentive and efficient.

We came abou this popular sidreria by chance, Our host (the room we had rented was nearby) told us that at this late hour (almost 22.00) this was the only open place in the area.We were quite hungry, and were immediately told that the onlly available option was Txuleta. We had no idea what we were up to and ordered two servings and cider. We were presented with two ENORMOUS portions, extremely tasty and special. The atmosphere was incredible, with people sharing the long common bare wooden tables and enjoying their meals. The most aithentic feeling in this part of Spain!
