We have found the restaurant on tripadvisor, and it is all true. We had a good and tasty dinner with a friendly host. Definitely a place to come back to.

We went there for dinner, and were ready for Guido's delicious food. We started with a antipasti misti, followed by four sorts of pastas, two with local truffle (amazing), two without (delicious). At that stage, only the most motivated followed... The pigeon was good, but not at delicious as the lamb and the cinghiale (wild boar). A nice tiramisu was the way to end this fantastic dinner, served with a very good house wine. Don't miss the experience, go to Guido, and take cash with you, as the card machine doesn't always work...

Farmhouse restaurant, inside at Il Marciatoio. With typical Maremma, dishes prepared by hand and with Company products. There is possibility to eat outside under a porch with views of the garden and choline Maremmane. RESERVATION ONLY.
People come to Tuscany for many reasons. But most come for the picturesque settings, the great weather and the glorious, simple, honest food and excellent wines. And this is exactly what you get at Ristorante Callistemo, with an incredibly warm welcome to wrap it all up in. Based inside an idyllic agriturismo, with views over the farm hills, you're welcomed by Enrico, the owner of this third generation business started by his grandfather. A charming and lively man who took his time to explain the food's origins and talked us through their small but perfectly formed wine list (which is also incredibly priced as they produce the grapes for the wine makers and can therefore sell at almost retail prices). For those who don't know, an agriturismo must serve its own produce, and we were in for a treat when we discovered all the ingredients for our delicious meal were either from their farm or their neighbours. All the salumi (we had six different cold cuts) we had as a starter were made on their farm with meat raised free range on their territory. Cheeses and vegetables were incredibly fresh and delicious and found their way in a fantastic tomato and farro salad, with mozzarella and fresh basil, a sprinkling of olive oil, quintessentially Tuscan flavours experienced at their best. Home made tortelli (the chef is very aptly the owners young mum Fiorella, a lovely lady who puts passion and heritage into her handmade meals) were pillows of wafer thin freshly made pasta, stuffed with ricotta and a local herb similar to spinach, were topped with a perfect ragù, meaty and intense with tomato, never sloppy and just delicious. Wild boar fillet (caught of course on their premises) was served slowly stewed and thinly sliced, topped with a sauce derived from its cooking juices blended with its odori (carrot, celery, onions) and olive oil, lavished on the slices and adding an extra dimension to an already tasty dish. All accompanied by grilled melanzane and zucchine bursting with flavour and of course fresh from their fields.A strawberry crumble (I didn't believe it either but it was a thing of beauty) was accompanied by a choice of home made grappa flavoured by one of 37 seasonal ingredients (we had an olive infused one) and coffee. It's a set menu that changes most days and a set price: â¬25 a head gets you the copious amounts of food, and between â¬7 and a max of â¬15 gets you a top bottle of wine from a very reputable winemaker (using grapes picked of course in their vineyard). Their craft beer selection is also incredible and we'll have to go back to dine with a selection of those another time! All in all it was a great experience. We may even stay there on our next visit, but we'll certainly go back to eat. Honest, home-grown, hand made food all served with passion and love. Thank you Enrico and Fiorella, keeping up a family tradition with a wonderful smile and warm hospitality. As things should be. Thank you for the wonderful review.I hope to have you as our guests again.See you soonA warm greeting

Pizza does not get any better than this! We have now visited on several occasions as we have bought a home in the area. It is always busy with locals ( a good sign), and the staff are universally friendly and helpful. Franco, the owner and chef now treats us like family. There is a huge selection of pizza on offer but the staff will always cater for particular likes and dislikes and it is easy to customise your selection. The ingredients are fresh and there are daily variations available. Freshly cooked pasta base with oil is brought to the table within minutes of arrival so you have something to nibble with a drink whilst making your choice of pizza. Children are looked after with plenty of drawing materials while their food is prepared. This is a delightful establishment and I cannot recommend it too highly.

At lunch and at dinner in the warm months you can sit outside under an arbour and eat delicious fish in an area where meat is the norm. We live nearby and have been going there for years, on our way up from Grosseto to Scansano. It is very much a local restaurant and the proprietors are known to everyone. We love it.Thank you so much for the review. I expect you soon. regards Alessandro

The chef looks like he can't decide between being an artist, a pirate or both. The decor suggests a bit of a pyschodelic bric a brac shop. But, fortunately, he knows what he is doing in the kitchen. We were very content with a pasta dish and a glass of wine on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. We started as the only two customers even thought it was late. More folks drifted in. My main concern was the WC. It is accessed down some dark and rickety stairs and through a very weird series of storage and sitting rooms. When you get there, there is little bulb in the ceiling; no soap, no paper towels, toilet paper will have to do we are literally and figuratively in the dark about cleanliness. Is this where the kitchen staff makes their ablutions? Hopefully, they have a sink and soap closer to home.Despite the obvious economic sustenance of the town and area's wine region, the place looks like it is in difficult times. The city is a bit scruffy, but still seems safe. I'm glad we were just passing through.Thank you Ulisse4 for your review, and I must compliment you for your sensitivity in the art of observation! yes I studied art and I wanted to be a painter but then I chose to work in restaurants going around so many countries around the world, also doing the cook on boats cruising the Mediterranean and crossing the Atlantic Ocean to get to the Caribbean, so you absolutely reason I feel a little cook a little artist and a little pirate! the "style" of the restaurant a little bric a brac and psychedelic is also this part of me and my partner because we have been doing art and antiques dealers for years. For your disappointment on the bathrooms you're absolutely right and as you may have noticed that we are just in a phase of restructuring ... so if you come back you'll find everything fine!as for the country of Scansano perhaps I would say that you have been conditioned by the sad and rainy day that made you see a village in decline ...... no Scansano is not portofino and not even Capri, Scansano is a small village Tuscan still true and genuine that is slowly opening up to tourism, more than economic crisis we have a cultural crisis ... but this applies to all of Europe! Thanks again for being our guest and if you come back here I hope to see you again for another spaghetti carbonara! Salut mon capitaineE.L.F il pirata ;)

Typical "toscano" friendly service in this restaurant, serving good food (antipasti, primi, and secondi were all very good). The "tortelli" are definitely worth trying (regardless of which sauce), the "ribollita" soup or a steak are worth trying as well.We didn't have problems in finding a place, but reserving a table may be a good choice.

We stopped here for a quick dinner...cheese, mixed salumi and wine all 100% local. Simone and crew are very good at what they do. We had our dinner downstairs where the cantina is properly set up as an old style tuscan/italian kitchen with sharing tables where you can steal advice from the regulars of The Salumeria. We highly recommend this place! Prices are very reasonable...said from an Italian!Dario&Abi

This restaurant is really out of the way but definitely make a detour if you can. Delightful reception from the owner/chef and a truly astonishing meal at very reasonable prices. Tuscan food raised to an exceptional level with subtle flavours and local specialities. We followed Paula's recommendation and were served a variety of home made pasta followed by guinea fowl. Altogether an outstanding dinner even in an area renowned for its memorable food.
