Vidreres is a small unremarkable town, which prides itself on the quality and variety of food it can offer to travellers and visitors. The restaurant providing most consistent value-for-money is Can MagÃ, right in the centre of town. Parking is easy, either in the spacious car-park behind, or in the street in front (no parking disc needed from 1300 to 1600, and really convenient for the less-abled). The fare is almost wholly Catalan, including rabbit, chicken, beef, pigs' cheeks (galtes), fish, snails and so on, all freshly brought in by local suppliers. Most customers - and certainly the locals - opt for the three-course Menu del Dia which costs â¬10 at lunchtime. Starters are chosen from about six dishes including salad, pasta, pineapple+ham etc. The main course might be one of the meat or fish dishes mentioned above, often cooked on the grill or in a pan in the oven (guisat). The third course takes a whole page to list and, of course, includes crema catalana. The mousse de llimona is to die for - not literally, one hopes, although as I've had quite a few, I may find out the hard way. Included in the â¬10 are bread, water or gasosa (popular for diluting red wine) and a carafe of wine of your choice. For large or small groups, the back room has atmosphere and, in Winter, a roaring fire. Can Magà is a family-run restaurant. It closes on Tuesdays and all of September.

I was able to use my Spanish to order food here and request a baby seat, and the food was beyond delicious! We had steak fillet, which was cooked in front of us in the restaurant and it was gorgeous!
