It's the second time we book with a group of friends to celebrate an occasion. Again we got up all very satisfied. They gave us so much that it was a pleasure to take the left overs home for the next day. We started with a typical plate of various salami-ham-coppa, caw-slaw (insalata russa), baciocca (typical made of onions-potatoes and egg) very very special, other typical pies of the Ligurian region. Home made ravioli, I just couldn't stop helping myself to more. Home made taglierini with mushroom source, The main course was a roast. It was so tender and lean and was cooked on a wood fire together with the potatoes so with a back taste of wood.Fantastic. Fritto misto which is a typical mix of various veg , meat and sweet fries.Out of this world. A selection of deserts one better than the other all home made. Coffee and a final grappa at the end all for a very surprising reasonable price (a secret). During the week they serve menu's for workers but at week ends you must book being a very small place.

Fantastic food in vibrant surroundings. Despite little English spoken, managed to order meal. Delicious food; LARGE portions. Pasta dish, king prawns, Gorgonzola and penne and four cheese focaccia. Great ambience.Must be authentic as restaurant full of Italian families, all eating and seemingly enjoying food.Would definitely recommend a visit.

Maybe it wasn't so terrible, but based on the previous reviews, our expectations were set up high. Anyway, the worst insult to a good quality pizza were canned mushrooms. Poor quality ingredients, nothing memorable about the dough. Service was just ok.

Ricardo our host during our visit to Chavari told us to go and he was right! We were staying just over the hill from the coast and had passed Rostio several times during our visit and when we got there, wow!Rostio is authentic! No menus in English and just a few words spoken in our tongue, but not a problem! We figured it all out...except for the quantity of food we got!We each ordered our lunch entree and and an antipasto plate of local specialties. That plate was more than a meal and we had lots of leftovers to nosh on for later.Since we were there for lunch, we "foreigners" were sort-of the entertainment of both the locals coming to eat and the staff perplexed by our cowboy twang :-)

We stayed in Lavagna for a long weekend and asked our receptionist about best pizza in town. She said it's in Chiavari, about 20 minutes walk, but it worth. She was definitely right. We had no reservation but got a table on the terrace for 1,5 hours. The staff barely speaks english, for me it was a sign that we are at the right place..:DIf you are lucky enough, you can sit on the other side of the street and watch the sunset over the mountains. We have tried the pesto pizza (of course) and the 4 formaggi. Both were fantastic especially with the vine we chose. For desert I tried the ananas (pineapple with a super delicious vanilla icecream).

Frittura impeccabile: asciutta e croccante all'esterno.

We found Il Casale just by chance. The owner is really friendly, the food is very good and the prices very reasonable. We don't speak much (hardly any) Italian but the owner was very patient and understanding and really looked after us well. Thank you! We will be back!

We loved the fun, service and food at this local Ligurian pizza stop. The kitchen turns out the basic food items but the "Pizza Man" with his wood stove in the rear of the restaurant delivers large, fresh, hot individual pizzas to an appreciative local audience (Saturday is a zoo). As obvious tourists (no Italian) we were treated with great civility and respect. Until we had become regular diners we had a table away from the mob scene. But when we appeared more often we were seated in the main room with the soccer teams just back from practice. Excellent atmosphere and service. We always felt welcome and at home in this small town attraction.

We are a small family run restaurant. We are 5 minutes walk from the sea and the city center. Our specialties are pizzas, local dishes and dishes from Friuli Venezia Giulia. We offer nice events theme nights. Dogs are welcome. Reservations recommended.
Lovely little restaurant just slightly away from the main centre of Chiavari. Great pizza selection with a mixture of bianca and tomato bases, along with a decent pasta choice and antipasti. My husband loved his 'white' pizza and I enjoyed my local specialty panseti con salsa di noci, both of high quality along with the really good bread that came with the cover charge. Just be aware that the staff speak little to no English (not a problem for us as we wanted to practise Italian and came armed with offline Google translate) but the dessert selection wasn't on a menu and I only understood two or three things being said and there was no cabinet to view. If you have it on a card at least you can translate the words. Overall a great experience and we would go back.
