We had a delicious italian family dinner with many good seafood dishes in a typical italian environment. BUT, they forgot the pizza for one of the boys. As compensation we got a treat for dessert. Still, the restaurant wasn't full so this was an unnecessary slip up.But go there for the seafood!

We visited this restaurant 5 times over two trips to Italy and found it so inconsistent we will never return. On our first visit the fritto misto was excellent, light batter and a good selection of fish. Second time around was a different experience with the majority of the frito being calamari rings - cheap for a restaurant to obtain, but the same price charged. This was not good enough. On the next occassion we had the risotto. For the area that produces most of the risotto rice the risotto was lacking in flavour and texture. We have had far better risottos for a much better price. So it continued with the restaurant being so so, but Porto Garibaldi is short on decent restaurants so we vistied on a few occassions. For one lunch we decided to splurge on the set menu and regretted it. The starters were limited (Italian set menus usually have three or four) we had one plate of tepid seafood with a very average cocktail sauce. The grilled fishwas bitter and the sorbet not smooth. The pasta dish was not memorable and the pasta cooked far short of al dente. We felt well and truly ripped off. The owner was not interested and told us how long the restaurant had been cooking fish in a very arrogant way. There were no lost in translation episodes as my wife is Italian. The service was average every time and on the set menu occassion the waiter almost threw the food at us and could not be bothered to move round the table to serve properly. Given that on most occassions this restaurant was average and overpriced and on one occassion the experience terrible I am surprised this is in the michelin guide. The only thing consistent was the house white wine - light anf refreshing. In an area of Italy not known for its local wines, this at least was a relief. We would not return.

Went to Comacchio eel festival but decided to have lunch in centro storico because of long queues at the festival spot. Although we had to wait for about half an hour to get our table (all the restaurants were overcrowded) food was worth waiting. Grilled eel was great, pasta dish was quite simple but tasty. Decent house wine and coffee, yummy desserts. Service was a bit slow but this was probably due to the festival crowds. Nice view and atmosphere.

Every stay in Estensi I will eat here. They make a good carbonara... All the other dishes are fine. It is not refined or high end. It is simply good. Service is usually fast. Their organisation runs smoothly. A thing i appreciate is that they are open all year!

Vegetable soup. Bland stock underseasoned with mushy vegetables. Scallops covered in fine breadcrumbs before being cooked until dead. Sole ( 2x small fish ) was well grilled, but the fine bones had not been trimmed off which made eating difficult. Wilted spinach was the highlite of the meal. Add a salad, 1/4 litre of local red wine and 2 x bottes of water. â¬64. Mediocre service. No credit cards accepted? Poor value. I normally give a second or third visit before critisizing, but this was not just a bad day, it is what it is. Not recommended.
