We visited Caffe Umberto at the recommendation of our host. She actually recommended Eno Club, which is the Sister restaurant just downstairs. We dined upstairs in the more casual Caffe Umberto. It was a happy accident! The wine list was very extensive (mostly wines from the Langhe region. Which is why you come to Alba anyway, right?!) and the sommelier was very knowledgeable although a bit hard to have a conversation with. The menu was not as extensive as the restaurant downstairs, but had many delicious options. We happened to be there during the truffle season, so we enjoyed the Alba white truffles. When paying our bill, the manager offered us a complimentary tasting of Grappa. We enjoyed it so much we made a reservation for the following night downstairs at EnoClub.

I got the impression that this restaurant has high ambitions and to serve really nice gourmet food. I do not think they meet this level. The best I had was the grilled meat, the rest was unfortunately a disappointment.

We preferred to sit outside but the only available seats were inside. We had wonderful attentive service. The gnocchi was marvelous made from purple potatoes. The plin ravioli was also great. Highly recommend.

We called to Book a table for six, and once we arrived they told her that there was no more availability. It was already late so we then had a really hard time looking for another place. The man that had answered the call denied the call and was pretty impolite!

We were lucky to get the last seat without reservations. The wine list is very extensive and takes some time to review. The pasta was delicious! As well as everything else we had. My wife and I usually share our meals and create our own tasting menu, and they accommodated us very well, often bringing out two divided plates.Dinner it was a three hour experience as is typical and made Italian restaurants. Enjoy the time and relax!

Una classica trattoria con piatti del territorio dove gustare la cucina casalinga e primi piatti di pasta fresca .
Had a great lunch here, the place was packed and we were lucky to get the last table available. We started with the tajarin alla crema di tartufo which were served in the cooking pot and had two genrous portions each, delicous. After that we had vitel tone' (which was meant to be a starter, but i had as a main) and cingiale con polenta, both delicous. Loely bonet and coffee to finish. The owner is a bit of a character and was out talking to some of the diners and wheeled out the trolly with the house speciality, boilled meats.

Little restaurant with owner chef. Reciptes by grandmothers. Own made beer.
When I have a hankering for home (USA) -- and frankly, even when I don't -- Boia Fauss fills the need. The wood-lined interior pub has a Seattle-Vermont vibe with hip owners. Across a small access road, tables fashioned out of barrels, old sewing machines, and other raw materials let guests sit all day and night outdoors gabbing. There is a "laborers' lunch" of the day for 11 euros (pasta, meat and veg) and a generous apericena for 2 euro in the evening. When you've imbibed too much (it happens), half a sheet pan of pizza will set you straight. If you plan on spending time here in the evening, you should reserve a table (it gets crowded).

What a beautiful, friendly eating place! We visited The Cortiletto on the strength of its positive TA reviews and are glad to report that they are all wholly justified. Exactly as reported, this is a small, friendly, family-run restaurant with an informal vibe and Piedmontese cuisine of the highest order. My pork cutlets were things of beauty and I just wished I had asked how they prepared those pink potatoes. A bottle of high end Barolo was served with all due reverence and the light Friuli we chose was perfect as part of the supporting cast. Service came from the restaurant owner as did a complimentary round of local amari at full time. We wended our way home very happily.

I emphasis the word experience if you choose one of the tasting menus. And why wouldn't you if cacio e pepe on the ala carte menu is Euro 70!! Yes, you will spend Euro 700for two and you will be fascinated by the parade of small plates that are beautifully presented and delicious. Sure I wasn't a fan of a few of the 40+ items that came our way, however, the culinary ride you will be taken on is unforgettable. I often compare such an artistic and flavorful dining experience to buying expensive Broadway tickets. In a way, it's a bit of a show. However, a delicious one. The time and attention it must take to make the majority of the small plates has to be intense. Piazza Duomo is very similar to Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York which only offers tastings - a bit of this and a bit of that of seasonal, flavorful items. I will mention just one dish - that is the salad made with 100 different garden items. Yes, you get an actual card with all the ingredients. The restaurant is not as formal as other top world restaurants and the decor was "interesting" - the corner wall nearest to me appeared to have to people in a sex position - but hey - did I mention it is an experience? The staff is attentive yet friendly. We were one of the last to leave and was happy to see Chef Crippa pop out to say hello. We were staying in Turin and trained it out. Note that Alba is a pretty place with lovely shops.
