If you are around this lovely part of italy, do not miss to go eat dinner at "il Vecchio Frantoio". Especially if you are an international tourist and you really want to discover the goodies of the region! It is the restaurant associated with the hotel Pian delle Vigne. While I will not talk about the hotel as I have not stayed there myself, I have nothing but compliments to give the restaurant.Location: it is a bit out of town, on top of the hill... overviewing the whole bay (Policastro Gulf). The vista is just breath taking.... and you dine among flowers and fruit trees in a very warm and romantic ambience. Staff: very agreable and charming, they will do all they can to make you feel at home! One great addition, the maitre d'hotel speaks fluently english, french and german (which is quite something in Italy). He also knows the region like his pocket and can guide you or advice you to where to go and what to do.The food: well let me separate it in two categories as the restaurant is also pizzeria. I would encourage everyone not to take the pizza, not because they're not good, but because the other specialties are just too AMAZING to pass on.For both restaurant and pizzeria, the ingredients are chosen fresh from the morning, the selection of cheese and vegetables is incredible... and the seafood is just WOW!Pizzeria: It is the absolute real napolitan pizza, which has a very thin crust and is a bit soggy by definition. I personally am not a fan of the napolitan pizza but that's just personal taste. But even at that, I tried it there and I have to say the ingredients are just so so fresh, the pizza has an incredible smell that makes your mouth water!! Restaurant: It's specialties from the region... and the cook is fantastic. Have seafood while you're there... it's the best... it's coming right from the sea across and it's so fresh... Don't hesitate to each take something different and then try a bit of everything. It is well worth it. There is also a great selection of wine and the owner knows a lot about it and can advice you. The prices are very very decent, not at all expensive considering the amount and the quality of the food. The restaurant also has a big big room which makes it also ideal for receptions, banquets etc...The owner tries to promote his region (and he is very right to want to do so!) and so he can make you taste all the local dishes and wines and liquors and cheese and everything. For going to this region since I am a child for vacation and for having tested about any restaurant around, I can promise you... go there you won't regret it.

My birthday meal. What to say.....a huge dissapointment. The wine was great,so was the view, but the food was bland and tasteless. For all everyone says about Italian food this was just awful. The waiter seemed like he really wanted to be elsewhere and couldn,t wait to get rid of us.I will remember this birthday because the meal was so poor and the atmosphere rubbish. As usual the telly was on.ps the waiter was watching the football for most of the evening.AVOID!!!

Restaurant with high quality fish specialties, excellent typical Calabrian cuisine and pizza, strictly Neapolitan.
Today 24/06/13 we have gone to have lunch to this restaurant after a recomendation of the pasta. After sitting for 2 minutes a guy what is suposse to be the responsible or the owner came to ask if we already knew, we asked for some more minutes and he came back almos few seconds after so we understood that they were in a hurry. My boyfriend ordered for a pizza and I ordered for pasta with seefood. he was served after not much time and we wait a bit for the pasta to come but... the pasta came when he had already finished the pizza (around 30 min after). I complained with the waiter not to have served us at the same time, that it was not normal that we were eating separately, inmediatly the "responsible" came to said that the pizzeria is not the same that the kitchen and that it was like that I tried to tell him that at least they could have warned us and said " come on eat your pasta! buon appetito!" and turn back instead of apology he treated me like a stupid girl so we decided to leave the restaurant (without eating the pasta). he said that we had to pay the service and we said no, that we will pay the pizza and that's all and then he said "ok you don't want to pay? then leave I will call the police" when we left he came for us in the middle of the street and insisted us to pay for the bill and I repeated we will pay you the pizza and that's all, in that moment he started threaten us and he said "if you don't pay me I will hit your boyfriend", he is not italian and he didn't understood what the "responsible" repeated three times... "is up to you, I will hit your boyfriend, is that what you want?, I don't care about spanish people" ... at the end we decided to came back and pay 10 euros for a pizza and a bottle of water. it did't avoid that he continued insulting us. So... a really memorable afternoon. Just for information we have NEVER left a restaurant before, but in this case we wish we could have done it before.

Whilst not everything on their menu is amazing, their gnocci is definitely the best I have ever had. Their kebabs are also outstanding but I'd say stick to these dishes (and the seafood) mainly. I think the quality of food isn't as consistent as it should be but the menu is very vast.

Used to eat here a lot but now no more last visit was rushed and UN friendly. family run restaurant and often busy, food ok and pizza to go. July and August gets very busy and they expect you to book but not practical if you are on holiday! Owners are often abrupt and even rude, eat and go is the way, not on sea front the restaurant is high above on main road, popular with locals. Problem with local restaurants in area the service is not good they just never try!

The restaurant is characterized by elegant and refined dishes. For our customers only fished quality and daily. You can enjoy a wide variety of dishes, from seafood appetizers, to first courses ... To raw seafood!
It has always surprised me that there arenât more seafood restaurants in Praia. So was very pleased to see that a new one had opened there. We were first to arrive on a Saturday evening, we had reserved a table. The decor is very pleasant with some great black and white photographs. Trendy china and decent glasses help the overall look. The lights however look good but are too bright. There was a good welcome and the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu is written on a blackboard which is visible to most of the tables. It appears simple but hides some very interesting dishes. We opted for the mixed antipasta of fish to start. Wow! It was delicious and not what we expected. Thin slices of sword fish flavoured with coffee is the dish that sticks in my memory, it was very different but good. Several cold plates followed by several warm dishes. It was a filling, delicious, varied starter that we were very pleased to experience. We followed this with pasta dishes. I had the ravioli which was extremely tasty and hubby had linguine with mixed seafood which included mussels, clams, razor clam, scampi, langoustine, again very tasty. These were large portions, very generous for a primi course following the great starter, we could not eat it all. Reasonably priced for the quality of food, we will revisit.Just one suggestion, there were no little towels to clean hands after handling the shell fish, which left fingers sticky.

At the end of the holiday season so the town was quite quiet. We decided to eat here based on the trip advisor ratings and we were not disappointed. We sat outside and watched the world go by.it was very pleasant, not too hot or too cold. The service was excellent and we managed our way through without the English menu. The food was delightful and well cooked, everything fresh and tasty. What makes this restaurant different is the way it is presented, with little twists on the normal. My starter, Porto di mare, was a selection of fresh fish and seafood but the hilight was the carpaccio of tuna with some sweet pickled red cabbage, absolutely delicious. There was nothing to fault. We hope to return.Thank you so much!

There are restaurants which are not bad, but just not memorable - it is the one. This restaurant is located in very good place - you do not need to search it, if you walk in Praia a Mare, you inevitable come to it. And probably will enter. When I have done it today, I realized that probably I have done the same one year ago, and maybe even one year before. But I just can not remember it. Everything in this restaurant is not bad, but not good. Service is not too slow, but also not specially friendly. The food is not bad, but you just do not remember you have you just eat. So if you are looking for just place to satisfy the hunger, you are in the right place. If you need anything more - it is not there.Thank you for your review. I seem to remember that your choice has gone on the menu at a fixed price and perhaps this has not helped to create a better judgment. I hope we have the opportunity to meet you again. We certainly will remember you. Thank you

We had lunch today in this family owned restaurant, the food was delicious, I would say the best we had during this trip, the staff friendly even though we arrived almost after normal lunch hours. We will definitely visit again.
