We had a lovely meal but when the bill came it was around 50% more than the menu suggested. The restaurant was full of workers having their lunch and there was no way they had paid what we had.I challenged the owner and he came up with all the oldest lines in the book (for example "the menu was just an example of the food but the prices are out of date". I got â¬10 back from him but it's a real shame that he decided to do this as the food was good and we have an apartment down the coast and and we are creatures of habit, we would have returned many times. The refund he gave us definitely still left him way ahead than if we had been local workers. We love calabria and speak Italian so this type of incident is rare for us but it ruined our day and we got straight back in the car and left Paola, probably never to return.

We visited in September 2017 and Arrived in the town square feeling extremely hungry for lunch. The shaded outside tables were just being laid and we were the first customers of the day. We had only intended top have a quick lunch but our hots were perfectly attentive - recommending excellent dishes and wine that we stayed for a bout three hours watching the comings and goings of a Paola lunchtime. We has pasta starters and delicious fish baked in foil for main, followed by gorgeous ice cream. we were just about to settle up when out host brought out half a dozen bottles of ice cold local liqueurs for us to choose as a free of charge digestif. I cannot stress how perfectly helpful and appropriately attentive our hosts were - always there when needed and discretely out of the way when not needed. Following the meal we went into what we thought was an indoors part of the restaurant to find a very large and mouth watering delicatessen. My only regret being that our holiday catering arrangements didn't allow us to take advantage of the delicious foods on offer.

I actually did not expect the size of the pizza and ordered a starter before (forgot the name but it was a nice warm bread with mushrooms, tomato, onion, lard and chesse). The pizza with sausage and mushrooms was very tasty but after the starter definitively too much. The price for my dinner was very ok.

Paola was not even on our road trip plan. Due to circumstances we stayed there for one night. Strolling around the centro storico looking for a place to dine, we noticed 2-3 people coming out of a pizzeria holding 2-3 pizzas each. "This must not be a coincidence" -we said- "there's something good here". We approached the entrance & we saw a very cozy sala & decided to get in. It was the best decision. We tasted one the 3 best pizzas we have ever tasted in Italy! The service was perfect- the pizzas came in less than 5' & the prices was more than budget. We paid Eur. 22,00 for 2 pizzas, 1 salad, 1 big beer , 1 big bottle of water. We totally recommend it!
A typical restaurant surrounded by greenery and with sea view. The kitchen offers traditional Calabrian dishes. Here respect for tradition and love for their land are the basis of everything.

It's not the first time I've retuned at Ristorante Flora over the last 6 years. I fell in LOVE with the "alici arraganati", a small Mediterranean fish fried in an spicy oil, well I don't know their secret but they are absolutely delicious! Not to talk about their pizzas, the dough is perfectly cooked and the toppings are as varied as your imagination can express! Placed right by the sea side, if you have the pleasure of eating outside during the summer months, you feel the soft saline breeze and enjoy the beautiful scenery. If you have a lunch inside, the restaurant is beautifully decorated. I haven't tried the meat, but they display to have grade A meats. I absolutely, truly and confidently recommend this place if you visit the town of Paola in Calabria.

If you want to experience real italian food on your visit to this amazing country, I cannot recommend visiting "Le Mimose" enough. Everything you think italian cuisine is about and more: a lovely, friendly and cosy environment, high quality service and amazing dishes imprinted in your memory long after you´ve gone back home. A slice of Italy with every single bite. Thank you for an amazing culinary experience and the wonderful, warm welcome!

Farm holidays of Mrs. Pina called "Il Casello": places to stay for food and holiday lovers. Aubergines, green beans, tomatoes, peppers and courgettes are a treat in store at this organic family farm. Pina and her husband Roro grow produce using time-honoured methods and serve farm-fresh meals by the fire, or out among gnarled olive trees. The apartments are welcoming. The silence reigns supreme. The view is gorgeous with all the shades of green and blue. The view of San Lucido(see the picture) is enchanting: a window on the Tyrrhenian Sea. This area of Calabria, in the province of Cosenza, is an undiscovered delight with heaps to see and do.

We went to 'il boccone del re' for lunch, after having had it recommended to us by locals. Being vegeterian, we were amazed to see that both chef and owner were both very happy to cook us a meal that was not on their fish menu. We had 'Paccheri ai porcini' and me and my girlfriend both agreed, this was one of the most flavoursome and delicate pasta dishes that we had ever eaten. The beer 'Aufugur' was also a great accompliment to such a great lunch. Thank you Il Boccone del Re. We will be back next year!!! Christian and ChiaraThank you so much guys. .. we really appreciate your visit.. We will wait for you next year with great pleasure

We stopped here for a late dinner in beautiful Guardia. This place is located across the street from the sea. It was late so we couldnât see but Iâm sure during the day itâs really nice. We started with fries calamari. This was the only time I ate calamari for the whole 2 weeks I was in Italy. I was a bit disappointed. It was a bit chewy and not flavored very well. My main dish was linguine with clams and it was excellent. The clams were fresh and the flavoring was perfect. My wife had a pasta dish with tomato sauce and mozzarella and it was delicious. Service was good here and everyone was very friendly. When I come back I will try again. Thanks for the review. When he returns he will surely find excellent squids.
