Tandil is the main city of the homonymous partido (department), located in Argentina, in the southeast of Buenos Aires Province, just north-northwest of the Tandilia hills. A lovely place with lots of character. The service is excellent and the food is amazing. We where 5 adults and a baby and we where all happy with the choice of food. They really looked after our little 1-year old as well. Giving him cuddles and toys.

After 4 weeks of wonderful Argentinian beef, my family and I longed for a bit of home. After enjoying the 20th bicentennial parade, I saw a sign in the window for Sushi! Just the thing! We found this place again and stopped in. As American, we were early as they did not open til 8pm and were slammed with return customers at 10pm. The servers greeted their neighborhood customers with kisses and pleasantries. We ordered 3 different kinds of sushis. Now... was this the best sushi I have ever had? No. But, it is probably the only sushi I have ever had that was not made by a Japanese person. Did it scratch our itch? Yes, it did. There was no pickled Ginger on the plate, but there was a pinch of Wasabi. The atmosphere was lovely.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Argentina. If youâre searching where to eat, this is not your place. If you want to enjoy a unique experience, from the art of every dish to the combination of elaborated flavors, and you have the time to wait while each unique piece is carefully prepared by Jose Maisonnave, then Umami is your place in Tandil, worth the 4 hours drive from BA. Served in antique china, and carefully taken care of by very warm and professional staff. Itâs art, itâs flavor, itâs Umami! Bravo Jose!

As its name suggests, the Granja is just down the street from El Calvario, which makes it very easy to reach by taking the micro (city bus). It actually is more a store than a restaurant. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and allowed me to sample more than a dozen cheeses, salamis, and hams, so that I could choose the ones that I preferred. My first day in Tandil, I bought several items for a picnic in the park. On my last day, I went back, because I wanted a "picada" for the trip home, but the only picadas that they had were far too large for one person. So the owner offered to slice some cheeses, salamis, and hams and make up a "to go" package for me of my favorite items. The entire cost of the "to go" package in February 2019 (including a medium loaf of bread) was 153 Argentine pesos (less than 4 US dollars) and was enough for three meals (one that afternoon, one on the bus back to Buenos Aires, and one for the next day). During my time in Tandil, I had a picada at another restaurant in Buenos Aires that was twice as expensive and much lower quality than the package Granja El Calvario made for me. If I am ever able to visit Tandil again, Granja El Calvario will be on my list of places to return.
