The restaurant "Il Bassotto" works products zer0 km from Alta Valle del Reno, offers a menu particularly attached to these mountains with a never-ending culinary research for the recovery of the ancient local tradition. Organic flour, fruit and vegetables
small restaurant attached to a hotel Santoli. Menu is limited, but interesting, with local food choices. Quality of the food is not worse then most popular restaurants in Porretta and service is very kind. Atmosphere is not bad, but do not expect full room (usually). Overall, optimal if you do not want to leave the hotel and still have a decent food.

La Veranda was recommended so we thought we'd go for lunch. It's much nicer once inside than it looks from the outside! The food they serve is good and honest, and portions are large. Even though we hadn't been waiting very long, we were sent garlic bread whilst we waited for our meal to arrive which was a very nice touch. I had a delicious pasta dish with a generous amount of tomato, bacon and a touch of chilli sauce - yum! - whilst my husband had a pizza that he described as very good. Great side salad. Decent bottle of wine. Pleasant service. We were only in town for one night, or we would have gone back.

After a whole morning trying to relax in a SPA we were very hungry at lunchtime and could not smell any food. This is probably the Holiday season for restaurants in the area. Wandering around, we finally spotted Le Vele behind the stalls of the weekly market. We checked the menus, one fixed price and one à la carte. They both sounded interesting. In a traditional restaurant, a bit old fashioned, but with all the good signs: happy clients at the tables, good, professional and quick service. We went for the 15 Euros menu, still a rich choice of pasta dishes and main courses. We had tortelli al burro and cotoletta alla milanese, with grilled vegetables side. We ended with Zuppa Inglese and Mascarpone with strawberries. Everything watered with a genuine Sangiovese. They are in the best "gastronomic" guides and have a long story in quality cooking. We will certainly come back with more time to explore the interesting à la carte menu.A nice discovery in Porretta Terme.

On the recommendation from the hotel manager - wonderful. Proper trattoria menu, quite small choice, but all fantastic, great wine selection. We ate here four nights out of seven - loved it.

This restaurant in Castelluccio in the hills about Porretta Terme served me some of the best meals I ate in Italia. Maybe it was because Salvatore and Daniela feature the traditional Apennine-Emiliano dishes that you may not find elsewhere; or maybe it is the fact that everything they serve made with local grains, produce and meats; or maybe it is because they make you feel like you are eating in their home. Whatever, this is an eating experience you should not miss. In the five days I spent there I had wild boar (cinghiale), rabbit (coniglo), pork roast (porchetta) and several types of local salami, sausage and mortadella. The pastas were every bit as delicious: tagliatelle bolognese, tortalloni (filled with local ricotta) with butter and salvia), stascinati (you may not find this on other menus). It got to the point I could not choose from all they offered, so I told them to decide for me and they never delighted with A surprise everytime. Their dolci are unrivaled: a fig torte, chestnut torte, strawberry torte, a dark chocolate cake that was fabulous. Just when you think you are done they will bring out homemade limoncello and other traditional "digestivi". Take a detour from the tourist trail and see the Real Italia. They operate a 10 room pensione above the restaurant and the town offers a slice or Italia that few people will see; and those how do will not forget the experience. If you like hiking/trekking the chestnut and beech forests above the town provide plenty of options for excursions in the fresh mountain air where you will find cool spring sprouting out everywhere (yes it is safe to drink). In season you will find several varieties of mushrooms everywhere and chestnuts by the basket full. The rooms may not be the best you will find in Italia but you will find that most of your time will be spent in the dining area and strolling about.Beyond the food and beautiful surroundings I found that the people of Castelluccio, especially Daniela and Salvatore, to be the friendliest I met in my six weeks of travel. Don't miss this place!
