Marenna is about perfection in every aspect of your experience. Chef Paolo Barrale commands his kingdom and brigade with the single vision of being the best. Using the best produce. Having the finest wines. Having the most qualified and superb service staff. Having the best maitre d'hotel in southern Italy with Angelo Nudo. And the food is perfect. Local flavours distilled to a purity of flavour and high level of preparation but without the smoke lights and mirrors of chefs that value technique over flavour. Every dish was thought through and prepared to the maximum level of refinement. The amuse were pink meringue clouds of Aperol with citrus essence. The hors d'ouvres were perfect little mouthfuls of parfait of foie gras, incredible bread, an olive oil tasting, featherlight steamed buns topped with ultra thin slices of fatted pork looking like wagyu, mouthfuls of polenta with intense fresh herbs, and brulee of local pumpkin. An intensely white chunk of the most pure delicate soft bacala followed served with the most superb green pea purée and Parma ham. Tubetti pasta with bean purée, soft fragrant mussels and coffee grounds followed. Then a sepia squid ink risotto with cuttlefish and deep flavored essence of citrus of the amalfi coast and peas. The most perfect piece of sous vide veal followed in an exceptional pizzaola sauce served with whole roasted baby bringal. Dessert was a series of surprises from a beautiful mini brioche and lemon sorbet pre dessert through to Barrale's reinterpretation of the classic delizia al limone of the region which is without a doubt the lightest most refreshing dessert I have ever had. The wines to accompany the meal were all from the property of Feudi Di San Gregorio where the restaurant is. All were exceptional but especially the wonderfully fresh method Classique and the deeply Liquorish flavoured aglianico. Followed by a fantastic noble late harvest. This meal was perfect in every way. The service was quite simply incredible. The waiters incredibly knowledgeable and kind without being over present and very discrete. Please don't let this experience escape you. Even the architecture is completely unique with the cleanest zen style of contemporary design. Simply fantastic.

During the past couple of years many travel and gastronomic magazines have been praising the southern Italian region of Puglia-the heel of the boot--as the "second Tuscany". While especially nice for its delicious food and lovely Beaches, Puglia is off the beaten track of Rome, Florence, and Venice, and not easily accessible by air except to Bari. In fact the best way to get there is by car from Rome or Naples. The drive from Rome to Bari takes approximately five hours and from Naples on A 16 autostrada about half that. Moreover, you will need a car once you've arrived in Puglia.
A special place to break the trip is for lunch at "Oasis Antichi Sapori", owned and run by the extremely hospitable Fischetti family, in Vallesacarda. To reach this special destination, exit the autostrada at Vallata, go uphill to the stop sign, turn left and go straight for c. 6 kilometers or c. 4 miles until the sign for Vallesacarda where you turn right and go downhill until "Oasis Antichi Sapori which will be on your left.
Vallesacarda is an ugly town but elegant, peaceful and very reasonably-priced "Oasis Antichi Sapori" lives up to its name. It was recommended to me by food writer Faith Willinger who is an expert when it comes to Italian cuisine. Most of the dishes, including the ice creams, are made inhouse. Mamma Giuseppina and sisters Maria Luisa and Michelina are in the kitchen. Younger brothers Carmine, Puccio, and Nicola serve their creations and recommend the wines to accompany them. Sister-in-law Raffaella and several members of the next generation also help in the dining room. There are five different menus to choose from; a la carte, a multi-course Tasting Menu 55 euros/75 with wines, Old-Fashioned Meal 45euros/ 65 with wines, Only First Courses 35euros/55 with wines and on weekdays Business Lunch 19 euros. I heartily recommend the home-made ravioli in a walnut and burnt garlic sauce, the candele (home-made short pasta) with codfish and baby green pepper sauce, and the roast suckling pig with spring onions and ginger. The platter of local cheese and the homemade hazelnut ice cream are to die-for. The wine list especially the choices from local cantine is impressive.
You can whet your appetite before going by clicking on the bilingual (Italian and English) website: [--]. Closed Thursday and holiday evenings.

Speaking of farm to table, this restaurant is the epitome of freshness. Angelo, the owner grows everything that is served, including growing the grapes for his own wine. Like I said Heaven!
The restaurant s only open on the weekends and you must reserve. My husband and I happened to go without a reservation and waited 20 minutes. Angelo came a shook our hands and made us feel welcome. He would give us updates on our status. He even handmade a special dish I requested.

We visited the Mastroberardino winery in Atripalda for a wine tasting and tour before driving 20 minutes to this beautiful resort in an under-visited part of Campania. The restaurant was surrounded by vineyards that we could admire from the large wrap-around Terrace. Our meal, pre-ordered for the 13 of us traveling together, started with puffs of fried bread dough filled with bits of different veggies. First course was a well-prepared zucchini flower stuffed with ricotta and deep fried. We then moved on to extra-large fusilli made in a nearby small shop and dressed with a creamy sauce made of local onions. Pork marinated and roasted in a red Mastroberardino wine came next followed by assorted, local style desserts. Each course was paired with a Masteoberardino wine. Rocco did a great job of telling how the food was sourced and prepared and describing the wine pairings. Service was impeccable. We all agreed that this was our best meal during the trip. Everything was so perfect we really didn't want to leave this enchanting setting.

La location, al di là dei gusti, è bella, curata ed aggiornata di anno in anno. La qualità del cibo è buona, ma non eccellente. Non una buona soluzione per chi cerca un matrimonio in esclusiva.

Locale accogliente, proprietari molto gentili. Antipasti buonissimi praticamente tutti prodotti del territorio. Primi e secondi tipici Irpini. Inoltre la proprietaria ci ha fatto assaggiare un piatto di faraona, veramente ottima.Prezzi nella media. Consigliato.

Italian culture accepts that you will find small children in restaurants in the evening. What is unacceptable is treating the dining room like a playroom. A group of children and parents were so loud that at times we could hardly speak.
This was a great shame as the food was a good standard. My steak was excellent as was the Antipasto Vecchia Casa. However the evening was also spoilt by terribly slow service.
I won't be returning.
