El Cid

El Cid is a hidden gem in Benidoleig (a real Spanish village), in the Orba Valley. Located in the Marina Alta area of the beautiful Costa Blanca area of Spain. As well as being a "community centre" for ex-pats (mostly British), including many activities t

We’ve just moved to the area and came here with some friends who recommended El Cid for a carvery (the only thing I miss from England!). Fortunately they’d booked a table because the restaurant was full. The food was presented in a buffet with the chef slicing and serving the meat who genuinely seemed to care about making sure we were happy with it. We went up for seconds too because it was so good. We had the toffee sundae for dessert which was delicious with a salted caramel sauce to die for.We thoroughly enjoyed every part of the lunch from the wonderful food, amazing views and excellent service. We were never made to feel rushed even when we’d finished eating and drinking and the staff were friendly and professional. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

The House @ Tormos

You are confronted by a magnificent imposing door that blocks any and all the light from inside the premises, so you don't know if it is open or not, although that you have arrived at the correct venue is clearly displayed by the door pillar. In true medieval style one grips the door knocker and announce your arrival, loudly. The door is opened almost immediately by the maitre d' who is dwarfed by these outside doors as are we, at 6ft 5.One enters to be confronted by a splendidly decorated and refurbished classical spanish town house which has been imaginitively transformed into a restaurant. The artwork, the soft furnishings, the colour palllette, all work harmoniously. It is a joy to behold with its tall vaulted ceilings, their beams highlighted, the tables arranged maximizing the guests' space. Little wonder one has to book in advance and the opportunity to attend is limited to friday evenings and sunday lunch times. As one proceeds through the restaurant, you enter the rear terrace with an abundance of greenery, pots and statues, a magnificent table from south africa where one enjoys the evening with a glass of fizz and berries. My guests, my wife and I were quite stunned by the sheer elegance of the venue.Three courses are available each with four options. The food is prepared by the Maitre d' 's partner. It will cater for vegetarians, but remember you are in spain and they like their meat and fish as we do.There were no complaints about the food and its presentation. The price, well, actually quite reasonable. The ambiance and the attention to his guests was exemplary. The bonus is that this venue is also a bijou hotel with three rooms that cater for bed and breakfast. A good place to house your friends if you don't have enough room at your villa or apartment.Great evening was had by all. It is though, a special venue for special days or dates not least because there is only one evening per week. But you won't be disappointed.

Bar Citrus

Used to love this bar on my yearly visits to stay with a friend. Noticed this time that the front terrace was FULL of dogs with their owners. Felt like a dog walkers meeting place. I love dogs but I don't want them putting their noses up to my plate or having to step over them to get to the bar. It's a shame that the owners allow this but it's business I suppose. It's not the dogs fault, it is, as usual, their ignorant owners. Sorry Citrus, I won't be back.

We have just returned from having a superb lunch at the Black Apple. Food was excellent, small menu and huge portions. All freshly made and served by a friendly staff. Wish we could still be here for ‘Fizzy Friday’! Definitely we will be returning .

Cappuccino

Reviewed By Sue C

My brother-in-law said he felt as if he were in a "Canterbury tearoom", because he generally prefers typically Spanish bars, restaurants and cafes. However, he soon changed his tune when his massive plate of muffin, bacon and maple syrup arrived. My sister, who has eaten Eggs Benedict in many, many locations and countries, declared Cappuccino's to be the best she has EVER had! I just had vegetable soup as we were out for dinner that night, but it was tasty, hot and clearly home-made. The scones, brownies and walnut cake were perfect. The Spanish ladies, who might be the owners - I don't know, speak English and are absolutely charming. We were there in January and it was windy and cold, so Cappuccino's was the place to be that lunchtime. Clean loos, pretty decor, plenty of choice, super ladies. Faultless!

Now under the name of Victoria Station, this was a fantastic discovery. Superbly cooked British-style food, beautifully presented and great value three courses with wine included - the little added extras of amuse bouches, tapas, bread and sorbets between courses made a very good meal exceptional. Choice of imaginative puddings wonderful. Don't be put off by the quirky interior. Garden looked lovely, would be great to eat there in warmer weather. Staff excellent and welcoming
