This place was recommended by our hotel. The food was fine but the owner was really unfriendly. Service was slow and we just felt ignored. They didn't ask if we wanted desert and it felt as if they just wanted to get rid of us. Very strange.Dear Ceb56,We're very sorry for your discontent about the service, but we don't understand your comment on the owner. He is always very friendly and kind with the customers and loves to speak English...There is a great misunderstanding...very strange...Please contact me by mail, I need more details: [email protected] you for your cooperation.Kind regards

Nothing exciting about this place. First patron for dinner , attracted by "home made pasta" ad in the menu, but there was no more gnocchi?!. Well meaning service but restaurant does not offer real italian food. Lasagna lacked flavor and spices with a semi sweet flavor added to the meat . The past layers were overpowered by the meat. When in Aix , stick to french restaurants off the touristy areas.

We had a very pleasant meal at La Familia, we were looking for a good Italian style pizza and definitely found it here. This is a small restaurant so if you're going later in the evening I recommend booking, we saw a few people being turned away after 8pm. The other diners seemed local (or at the very least French) which is a good sign. The atmosphere was lively and convivial. We ordered a Catalane and a Calzone which were served very promptly. You have the option of a creme fraiche or tomato based sauce with the calzone - I opted for the latter. The calzone is also served with a large heap of leuttice with balsamic dressing. As in most places, the house red was cheap and readily drinkable. We chose not to have a dessert however the profteroles that I saw coming from the kitchen were huge!Final price was very reasonable, we would definitely return.

We wandered around on our first night here looking for a dinner spot for our family of four. This place looked nice and drew us in. We were amazed that it was empty when the restaurants nearby were full, especially after we ate there. The salad with tomatoes and mozzarella was absolutely delicious! The pasta was fantastic and we all kept taking bites of the mashed potatoes from my 7 year olds kids plate because they were so good! The dessert was also wonderful. It was a great meal and we highly recommend this restaurant.

This joint is two thirds restaurant and one third takeaway. But you just have to see the huge queue outside to know that it is good.....It is small, but warm and very friendly. The fist time, friendly, The second time, you are almost family..... That kind of place.Limited menu.... galletes (wraps), panini or salad. But it is as flexible as it is limited. Huge range of ingredients, and you get to pick. And the ingredients are top quality, So no problem to choose a nice dish. And there is more. The wine is good and very well priced! And there is more... the desserts (albeit served in plastic cups) are utterly sublime!!!Right up my street..... quality food, low price, cheap booze..... that is what you call heaven!!Staff working lie crazy to keep up with the demand.....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by this tripper who has been around the block,,,,,

Staying in Le Tholonet, didn't feel like going all the way into Aix, read the reviews and decided to try it. What a lovely night, the staff appear delighted with everyone that arrives. We were quickly given the run down on the menu. We had the veal scallopini and a pizza, both were very good. A really pleasant inexpensive night out!

We have been in Aix for three weeks and we have dined at this restaurant 3 times. If we go back, maybe we will get past the pizza. But why, it is the best pizza we have ever eaten. Our first visit, we just stopped in at dinner and were only able to get a table downstairs in the cave. The last two times, I have made a reservation for lunch, but we still sat inside, on the main level. The staff is very friendly, we have the same waiter each time, since he is the only one that speaks English. My husband and I usually split a starter, and then split a pizza. They are very accommodating about bringing the dishes separately and bringing extra plates, which is clearly not the European way of eating. The wine list has some nice wines at reasonable prices. The homemade Tiramisu and cannoli are worth the extra calories. We have one more week here, and I suspect we could be back for an encore.

Authentic Italian Food (slow food).
My husband and I came here for dinner during our stay in Aix en Provence. The service was amazing and the chef came out to help explain the menu as it had just changed and we do not speak French. He explained everything efficiently and was so incredibly kind to us. We had the caprese for an appetizer. For dinner, I had the Bari red pesto pasta dish and my husband had the ravioli dish. Both were awesome! We were so thrilled to be having such quality pasta dishes. We highly recommend this spot!
