The restaurant is on two levels surrounded with a plethora of old bits and pieces. eg: lanterns, radios and other things. The waiter was really good, speaking quite good English and enthusiastic about the food and wine. The food was excellent, good portions and beautifully seasoned. Lovely selection of wine and port! We wnt once and then back two days later.

Cosmopolitan restaurant, with long tradition on Fishes and Seafood, located in Póvoa de Varzim (20km from Oporto) northern Portugal, with table service list of local cuisine. Smoking and non-smoking rooms. Good for groups, and children friendly. In front the Lapa Church with private parking, 50 mts from the beach road Póvoa de Varzim/Vila do Conde (near the marina).
Lovely restaurant. Good food excellent fish, but also very tasty meat options. Staff had to be reminded that there is an english card and were obviously not used to many non-portugese speaking visitors. On the other hand, that was also part of the charm of...MoreMuito obrigado pela sua avaliação, os nossos melhores cumprimentos!

The food is not that great but also not bad.

Good if You want a decente ,meal for a rezonable price.

I have been visiting Caruso on and of all since it started for more than 20 years ago and now I have been visited again after a long time away from Povoa.
We were welcomed professionally by the staff and get our Seating and a menu card immediately.
The restaurant has been beautifully re-decorated since my last visit.
We were instant offers some bruchatta and some cold cuts and get our wine/water served.
My wife ordered pizza, my daughter ordered tomato soup and I ordered a lasagne and a green salat.
Soup and especially the pizza was excellent, the lasagne was overall greasy and was not so tastefull, the green salat was very fresh. I asked for bread for my pizza to soak up some of the greasy sauce, which they charged me extra for.
We have until now eaten 3 times at Caruso as we are not so funnel about traditional Portuguise food and Caruso is probably the best Italian restaurant in Povoa de Varzim, but it's still far f om Italien standard, except for their pizzas.
I suspect them to use the same tomato sauce for all their bases in their pasta dishes and use the same in their soup as well, but never mind.
Caruso is well visited and have friendly service and it's a escape from traditional Portuguese food

We found this restaurant by accident but coincidentally , just before going in, I met a friend who had eaten there the night before and he said it was the best fish he had tasted. We were a family part of ten and had ordered a paella for 6 persons ( has to be ordered in advance) and then had 4 separate fish dishes. We ordered clams and shrimps for 4 as starters which were delicious and sufficient for us all. The paella was very very good and the other dishes -codand monkfish were equally delicious. Portions were very large and we took home a doggy bag to enjoy later as we couldn't bear to leave it.
The restaurant is quite small but was not full although I suspect it is full at the weekend. Staff were extremely helpful and one spoke good english

the most famous dishes here are the "cachorros" and "francesinhas". I can't say that was the best "francesinha" I ever had, in fact, it is far from that award. Although it wasn't bad, the francesinhas is served with a special bread and the sauce is different than usual, first bit is strange but then you enjoy it.The price is also reasonable, and one big PRO are the fries, real potato not frozen.
The downside is the decor and organization, the restaurant need urgently some renovation, it looks old and dirty and messy. You can see at some corner boxes and plastic bags full of things. not the most pleasant image to a restaurant, we don't expect to have a meal at a storage warehouse.

Yestetday, me and mu hysband were in the mood to lunch outside and as I had read very good information about A Tasca da Tia Maria. We checked with Tripadvusor and wasn't closing day. And we went there. From the parking place, I notice that the restaurante door was closed burro thought "Perhaps it' s the air conditioning". Unfortunately, when we got there, we saw a very small handwritten paper saying "Fechado". I know urgencies happen but restaurants that are in applications like Tripadvisor must remember that the have a commitment towards the clients - to update information.
Closed? That's not the proper way to inform clients.
Due to an urgency
Due to holydays
Due to maintenance, and so on.
That's way I gave the rate above. I have to go there, another day and find it open,

Sailorman and Friends, a new, young space, located at Naval Povoense Club building that has the sea as a source of inspiration. A pleasant and comfortable space, as being a reference for their burgers from picanha, passing for white meat and never forgetting the maritime influences with cod burger and other white fish. In addition to the burgers, the Sailorman and Friends also has some fish and meat dishes. This restaurant / bar is also the ideal place for a simple snack, of which we highlight the montadinhos confecionados with poveiras preserves, which may be accompanied by a good glass of wine after a day's work. The decor was not left to chance, maritime references are everywhere provided the name of the tables (boat name) through navigational instruments coming to the boat placed on the ceiling. The Sailorman and Friends thus presents a young cuisine that combines modern kitchen with our traditions, a beautiful and comfortable place.
We had a lovely meal here. The burgers were delicious and the chips were real chips!! The service was quick and very pleasant. We went back the next night because we had a lovely meal.Thank you for your comment. This is very important for us. We hope to see you again :)
