Reviews on Portuguese food in Northern Portugal, Portugal. Brimming with both history and natural wonder, Northern Portugal is home to Porto, the city that gave the country its name, as well as the important ancient town of Braga. Also here is Peneda-Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, a gorgeous wilderness area of mountains, gorges, water features and wildlife. Many picturesque villages and manor houses dot the countryside. Two areas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alto Douro Wine Region, and the Paleolithic rock art in the Côa Valley.

Typical portuguese atmosphere, calm and air-conditioned, with a range of options of the best regional dishes that can be found in Porto. Staff dedicated to serving you well and affordability.
After reading all of the great reviews for this restaurant, we were eagerly anticipating an excellent meal. Both of us were very disappointed with our food however, as we found that our dishes were very salty and oily. The portions were quite large , but we found the taste to be ordinary. I must say that the owner was very friendly, but despite this, we would not go back.

DAMA pe de cabra is a PETISQUEIRA restaurant where you can have an experience of exquisite Portuguese flavours, thanks to its recipes of PETISCOS (a very tasty delicacy, culinary preparation made with great care at the moment) elaborated with selected tra
This breakfast and lunch restaurant is truly wonderful. Beautiful home cooked exquisitely flavoured food. It was absolutely sensational. We had a fabulous lunch here. The attentive, friendly and welcoming owner explained each item on the menu. It was then cooked by his wife using her wonderful recipes. Delicious and succulent. we only wish we had found it at the start of our trip. Highly recommend the Petiscos which are served with salad. We added a side of fries, fresh orange juice (which was presented like a beautiful cocktail) and a delicious glass of wine. At peak times for lunch - after 1:30 - there could be a bit of a wait as the place is popular and the host is attentive to each guest. it is absolutely worth it though! We will remember this meal as a highlight of our trip to Porto.

Traditional Portuguese restaurant of grilled fish and seafood. Fresh fish directly from the fishing-harbor. Complete bar ans cocktails!
We had the shrimp dumplings for appetizer and grilled fish (espada and âcavalaâ). With a good bottle of white wine it costed around â¬50 for 2 persons and it was every cent worth it. Everything was delicious. Comfortable e beautiful chairs, friendly service.

Great food in Maia! Off the beaten path but well worth the short walk. More fancy atmosphere than most of the restaurants we've been around here. Amazing "octopus in the oven" and amazing service. They even had a server who spoke English quite well!Yes all of the food is for two (which is odd but we've seen that all over porto). My husband went in once as a single and they happily told him which meals they could do 'for one.'

This restaurant is quite big and the quality of the food is unquestionable! We had kid (cabrito) and the meat was tender and full of flavours. The desert was good but regular. The price is average.

Kitchen Open from 12:30H to 15H and 18H to 22H. Homemade Italian Cousine, Mexican and USA BBQ. Family Restaurant, Bar.
I followed the herd after seeing the #1 rating on TripAdvisor in Braga and wandered down from my hotel. While my expectations were high they were well satisfied. Attentive yet not over bearing service. I was talked out of ordering a starter (a first for me!) because I ordered the ribs. Good call! Slow cooked for a day the meat fell off the bone. Highly recommended. Oh and the cheesecake was awesome and even though I didnât indulge they have a massive cocktail list also.

Reserva necessária para almoços (a partir das 13:00h) e para jantares. Organizam-se pequenos eventos.
Great food and very personable hosts who are creating something original in a smallish village. Recent;ly-renovated space with unusual decor but lots of ambience. Very friendly personable hosts who speak a number of languages. Got the fire stoked up for us even though we arrived late and served a delicious assortment of what was on the menu for that day.

Portuguese Kitchen
Alentejo's cuisine is one of the pearls to be discovered by those who love food. I'm lucky to have been raised with magnificent meals from Alentejo, but having tasted excellence, I'm often disappointed even with the highly recommended places either in Alentejo or elsewhere. It is absolutely not the case with Cansêras: the pumpkin soup was great, and I just couldn't stop eating the pork "bochechas". The wine list is an act of culture. Service and the decoration make you feel at home. Most of the food is seasonal (and brought weekly from Alentejo to the North of Portugal), so the ingredients are as fresh and natural as it should, and the taste is adjusted to the weather outside.

Found this restaurant through Trip Advisor reviews, and made reservations for lunch as part of our full day of driving and wine tasting. Well worth the "off the beaten" path location. Atmosphere, views, friendliness of the owner, food, wine, pricing, all made this a great lunch experience, and would highly recommend.
