We booked a tour plus five course lunch without much expectation and were throughly blown away by the chef's imaginative and delicious cooking, warm hospitality of the whole staff, the wine pairing is ridiculously inexpensive with great thought behind the marriage between wine and food. We also get to taste experimental wine not commercially available. I cannot wait to return for another culinary discovery journey the chef has planned for us.

The S Pedrorestaurant from the outside does not discriminate from manyother places in the Alentejo.
The food however is of much higher quality than you get elsewehere.
The restaurantserves typical Alentejana style food that has been prepared with detal for attention and taste.
The various types of Migas for instance are delicious.
The home made Deserts are also not to be missed.

Old stable and haystack of an agricultural house of sec. XVIII restored, and transformed into a pleasant restaurant, which seeks to recover and spread the rich Alentejo gastronomy.
A little bit hard to find, but we made it. The food was wonderful, although the service was somewhat slow. Very good "sopa de cação" and "feijoada de porco preto". It was really wonderful. Also very good Deserts like "Sericaia". Strongly recommended.

On our way to Lisbon after having visited the Alqueva dam, we were late for lunch.
We tried Portel and found there this small restaurant for sure popular with locals.
Although lunch time was behind us, the owner accepted to serve us.
We chose a classic bacalhau preparation (à Brás).
It was good and the quantity served for two was more than enough.
Service is just average.
Cheap pricing.

I was visiting the area for some wine tasting and this was the first place we went to, for lunch. The menu was absolutely amazing. You have a big variety of local dishes. I wanted to pick lot's of them :) Ended having Sopa de Cação that was simply amazing. My wife had a lovely salad and my kids a lovely kids menu.
Besides the food and good wines, the place has an amazing cenário. You have a great view to Alqueva.

If you're nearby and don't want some cosy but you value local food, you won't regret your stop. I had a lovely deer stew! Given it's outside the tourist circuits you're never find those prices anywhere. Recommended!
