Piccolo Ristorante, Cucina Mauriziana, Gestione Familiare
The place is directly on the road..not very nice but clean and it has a smiling staff.
The carte is simple but there is enough choice.
The price is excellent ...menu at 650 with octopus salad and fresh fish.
Everything was very good... really homemade style.
A good place for a lunch

I have been passing this place for quite some time now and always wanted to try it out. Well, I finally did for a quick lunch and I left as a very happy customer. It's a small place with limited selection but all the foods are prepared with lots of dedication and skill. It's very much delicate home cooking and a nice change from all the other restaurants in the area.... for once i left a restaurant on the island without feeling bloated and full.
Next will try breakfast ....

We do only fresh seafood. If no catch we are not open. We also organise boat trips like big game fishing and catamaran tours.
Firstly if I could give them a zero rating I would, as it is the most horrific experience I have ever gone through and I am middle aged. This was our 2nd year in a row visiting Mauritius. Last year we raved about the Cabane du Filao. This year we had a shocking experience, to say the least. We arrived on 28th of December and made prior arrangements to have dinner. I have Vicky and Trisha's (the owners) phone number. We were a family of 13 people travelling. We went back for dinner on the 29th.
Upon asking about their New Year's Eve Celebrations they said they were having a Buffet with starters, seafood including lobster, BBQ chicken and lamb & sausages. Plus salads and for dessert flambéed bananas for a price of 2500 Rupees. Homemade rum, beer and rosé wine would be included. We said we didn't want lobster, so Vicky the owner said it will be 1800 Rupees per person but still including other seafood. The plan for the evening was to go to The Cabane for the "buffet dinner" and then go to the beach near the Veranda Hotel to be there at midnight, to watch the fireworks and dance the night away. At 1am we would get more BBQ food. They asked me if they could fetch money from us, so they could buy the food the following morning. We had messaged the owners the previous evening and asked them if we could just join them at the Veranda, as we were thinking of having a BBQ at our apartment and asked how much that would cost, if we just joined them at the Veranda Hotel. They said the same price and that they had already started marinating the chicken and lamb. I then replied that we would join them for NYE. My sister and I had just dropped everyone off and dropped the cars back at the apartment, as we don't drink and drive. Even though they said that we could drink and drive , as everyone apparently does it in Mauritius, I said in my country you go to prison if you get caught drinking and driving! The two drivers got a lift back with Trisha's brother. The Cabane is only about 1.5 km away from the apartment.
Upon arriving at the Cabane there was already a bit of an attitude from Vicky. He said we could still cancel. There was a "misunderstanding" as apparently the evening was not a buffet and if you didn't have the lobster you got no other seafood. Our price was just for the BBQ Chicken, lamb and sausage. We received cheese balls and chickpea balls (2 of each per person) as a starter. 3 of us didn't eat lamb, so Vicky charged us another 700 Rupees each for the prawns. Now 3 of us paid the full 2500 Rupees and should have got all the seafood, like the other guests eating but we only got prawns. When my plate arrived there was no chicken. I sent it back and got the chicken and sausage. I have attached photos of our plate. Disappointing to say the least especially, as it was NYE and for the price we paid! We were totally ripped off. There were no salads except for a spoonful of coleslaw. I wouldn't even give my dogs that food. The lamb chops were tasteless and practically all bone. The prawns came with a bit of rice and curry beans.
On the first night Sahil, the owner's son had fire crackers. He took the boys (6 of them) to the beach and showed our boys how they work. They were very loud and the bang gave a fright. The next night (29th) Sahil and one of the locals had fire crackers and fireworks for sale. The boys all chipped in and bought some from them. They set them alight that night. We bought the boys some fire crackers and fireworks for NYE. Some of the other guests got a bit irritated when the fire crackers were set off as they were loud, but it was NYE and the local man (owner's friend) was giving the boys more fire crackers to carry on annoying the other guests. By 11:00pm our boys' fireworks had all been set off and they didn't have anymore. The local man had given some and the last one was set off at about 11:30pm in the ocean.
At about 11:00pm Trisha and Vicky left us to go to their home to drop off some kitchen stuff . They came back and packed the plastic tables and chairs and transported them to the pier where we would sit the rest of the evening. Trisha wanted us to get a lift with her brother and the local man but I said no as they were tipsy. I said I wanted to go with her in the car so she took some of us. The Veranda is in close proximity to the apartment we stayed at.
We sat on the brought chairs by the pier. Girls went to dance at the Veranda and came back just before midnight. The other guests were also sitting by the pier. As midnight struck our family all wished each other and as I was about to kiss my eldest nephew I heard a commotion behind me turned around and saw a scuffle. My son was shouting at Vicky who had slapped my 17 yr old nephew across the face. Vicky accused my 17 yr old nephew of throwing a cracker at his son Sahil and it apparently hit his leg. My nephew was flabbergasted, he thought Vicky was walking up to wish him a Happy New Year and instead he got a slap in the face. Shouting ensued. My husband went to intervene and tried to speak to Vicky. He told Vicky that we are adults and there is no need to shout and how dare he slap our nephew in the face. If there was a problem, he should have come and spoken to the adults. I don't know how the Mauritian deal with a situation but if this had happened in South Africa we would have laid a charge of assault on a minor and there would have been serious consequences! Vicky was clearly drunk but I am sorry it doesn't give him the right to slap anyone, let alone my nephew across the face. I got the group together and told them we are going back to apartment to finish the celebrations there. Half of our party saw the happenings and my nephew never threw a fire cracker at Sahil as he had used them all up over a half an hour earlier. We are all disgusted and shocked at how this New Year's Celebration ended. Despicable behaviour from a "restaurant" owner towards his patrons. Trisha came up to me and said that I would have done the same thing, no I definitely would not. I would try and find out what exactly happened instead of acting on the spur of the moment and slapping a child across the face!!! We are decent, reasonable people who went to Mauritius for a family holiday and celebrate NYE with local people and in return we literally got a slap in the face. I am a frequent traveller and Tripadvisor reviewer and have never given any restaurant or hotel a "one star" on TripAdvisor out of 115 reviews and only four "2 stars". This experience deserves a zero!

This restaurant is open for guests for breakfast and have different menus for lunch and dinner. The breakfast spread is limited but it is quiet and peaceful as compared to 180 degrees.

In the heart of the Croisette, Chef Stéphane welcomes you in a contemporary and warm setting. As a world Brasserie, RED Restaurant will seduce your taste buds, by the quality and freshness of its products at very competitive prices. Epicurien, do not hesitate, it's THE restaurant not to be missed in Grand Bay!
Red is quite extraordinary and progressive. The head chef and owner clearly loves his craft and this is the essence of the quality and attention to detail which presents itself in the carefully designed dishes. I can honestly say that this one of the best...MoreDear TheBestOfMauritius, A huge thank you for your visit and your very nice review about us. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again soon, Regards Chef Stephane

From the outside the small street shop seems very unimpressive. As a European it is easy to overlook. But the inscription reveals that it is a small food jam and the recommendations on TripAdvisor or google are perfect!!!
Offered are very delicious and homemade food such as wraps, noodles, burgers and sandwiches. These regular dishes are freshly prepared daily with fresh ingredients and spices within minutes. The wraps are world class. The best wraps we have ever eaten. You would like something extraordinary like a typical curry, grilled fish, lobster, etc. one says one day before.
Particularly charming and romantic is to sit and eat on a beach mat with a perfect view of the sea and under the famous Filaos trees because the authorities prohibited tables and chairs on a beach.
We had been eating several times and it was always tasty, clean and friendly.
Friendliness and cordiality is the second great secret of the store. It was just always great to come by. There were always a few tips to Mauritius, sightseeing or bus connections. Very authentic and warm.

As part of our all inclusive deal we had dinner at shells twice. Along with Cumin this was my favourite restaurant, the octopus salad is a delightful dish, the Chicken and Shrimp curry is a stand out meal, so flavoursome and beautifully presented. I also enjoyed the coconut banana for dessert. The staff were attentive and really kind. Do not order the house red though that is awful and hence my decision to go 4 stars rather than 5. I would also say if not all inclusive the price is a little on the steep side and you can probably get better value at cumin, but you will not be disappointed with the menu and quality.

Le Skipper is a lovely beach restaurant located at Voile Bleue Hotel in Pointe aux Piments. The restaurant overlooks the beach and has fantastic views on the northern coast of the island. It is the perfect place to come and enjoy the beautiful food prepared by our chef in a very peaceful location.
The place is very beautiful and the food good. The only problem was the delay of the dishes. We went to the place with a group of people and made the request. While this group had finished eating, my plate and my husband's plate had not yet arrived ... We did not like the service.
