Blair Atholl (from the Scottish Gaelic: Blàr Athall, originally Blàr Ath Fhodla[1]) is a small town in Perthshire, Scotland, built about the confluence of the Rivers Tilt and Garry in one of the few areas of flat land in the midst of the Grampian Mountains. The Gaelic place-name Blair, from blàr, 'field, plain', refers to this location. Atholl, which mean 'new Ireland', from the archaic Ath Fhodla is the name of the surrounding district.

Sunday roast disappointing, overpriced, portions are small, advertised with "all the trimmings" ... what trimmings? They consist of a sort of ratatouille of vegetables that do NOT belong with a roast. And no gravy!! Lovely snug place, friendly staff, let down by poor food.

Having been here once before we thought we would give it a try. Staff friendly and helpful and the restaurant was in a good clean condition. Slightly busy due to some American tourists but the staff appeared to cope well. The food on the other hand was not great. The game pie was over done and tasty only of red wine or something similar, the veg. was only blanched and rubbery at the same time. The 2 x lamb roasts were like leather and full of greasy fat, again the veg.was poor. The desserts we had were the treacle tart and they must have been the smallest portion on the planet.I wanted to complain but my wife and her friend refused to allow me tp that. Not recommended and we will not be back

Encouraged to visit here next time we were in Pitlochry so popped in Monday afternoon for spot of lunch. Place was only half full when we arrived so found table and settled down for the great food and service we had been told this place was good for. I chose the steak pie with chips which came with veg and several roast potatoes. My wife went for the lentil soup and bread followed by sticky toffee pudding and custard. Asked if we would like anything to drink so ordered black tea and a pint of lager. Walls are adorned with plates and pictures of coal mines and pits from various places in Scotland so this kept us entertained until our food arrived. The food is delicious, my steak pie was excellent. Not a piece of fat or gristle to be found and chips cooked to perfection. My wife said her soup was very tasty and when she hardly spoke during her dessert I knew we had another winner. Biggest disappointment though was having to go to bar half way through meal to ask when we were getting our drinks. Huge minus for this and put a downer on meal. No one asked if we would like anything else or if we enjoyed our meal which another negative. Food was big winner here though and if service had been better then would have no hesitation giving 5/5.
