Gastro Pub and Grill - under new operator ship since November 2017. Open 7 Days per week with MeinHost - Philip Harrison
We visited Fat Catz café a couple of years back and enjoyed a pleasant tranquil lunch on the shaded Terrace at the back, overlooking a garden of succulents. Two years on, a lot has changed. In the immediate vicinity, other premises are up for sale or already closed-down. The man now in charge of the café seemed perfectly genial, but service was hit and miss. Of all the ten or so white wines on the wine list, only a single bottle was available. Our quiches with a small salad were probably decent enough when they came out of the oven, but they’d been ruined by a long zap in the microwave. Fat Catz café has gone to seed, which is a shame.

Spoil your family & eat out at Mountain Creek Spur. We are the best steakhouse & burger restaurant in Piketberg. Bring along your kids for some great tasting food & dessert from our famous Spur menu.
We enjoyed big juicy Banting Burgers here on our way to Cape Town. Lose the roll, the chips and o.nion rings and have 2 hot veggies instead. This was accompanied by a very generous portion of guacamole and a slice of bacon. Not 100% Banting...MoreDear Geo H, Thanks so much for taking the time to send us your feedback. We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your burger as we pride ourselves in excellent meals. We hope to have you back again, soon. Kind regards, Spur Team

Location: Just off the N7 circle at Piketberg. A well known restaurant brand name is housed next door. Mrs. Bean is hardly noticeable - but pass the unfriendly, almost rude Spur and there it is!
The experience: A warm welcome followed by smiling efficient service. We did not like the itemized menu but made up our preference breakfast items anyway.
The interior of the entire building is dark and somewhat dingy but the smiling, happy waitress made up for that. If the Mrs Bean management read this - try and do something to lighten and brighten the place - it will be worth it.
The food was served on lovely warm plates (it was freezing winter) and everything was cooked as ordered. The toast was a little weird, almost as if done in a pan rather than 'toasted' but quite palatable.
Everything was daintily served which somewhat made the day for me - I like to feel special when I 'eat out' albeit out of travel necessity.
Conclusion: All in all not a bad experience at all. BUT you have to be aware of the fact that this little restaurant is there, or you simply won't see it.
We shall visit again when we next pass through.

A new addition to the West Coast region this store is perfectly situated on the N7 serving not only Piketberg but also other outlying towns and hamlets. For travellers on the road to Cape Town or Nambia or the many other towns in-between, this store is god sent with its 24 hour service.

Stopped to refuel on my way back from a long distance motorcycle trip, and noticed a clean an very well presented proudly South African icon in the steak restaurant circles operating a semi-take away franchise as well. This is a super idea serving as a road side diner or for having some food while on the go.
Sadly the restaurant group had some very bad publicity following an incident at another branch and the subsequent online petition against it. As it is my view not to punish an individual owned/run franchise for something that was not their doing, I still supported them, and will in future as well.
Sadly my experience inside by the staff was not the best, I would have wished for.
They seemed quite uninterested to help and upon ordering they gave the wrong information about the specific dish, in this case a hamburger displayed on the menu as a take away. Afterwards realizing that it cost more when the fries are included. No big deal as anybody can make as mistake. However, I noticed that it cost the same as the normal sit down meal, and bear in mind that I was travelling by motorcycle, I asked that the meal can be served as a sit down meal. Not a problem, but when they brought the meal, it was still served as a take away with no eating utensils or a plate provided.
A basic assessment of the client would have been obvious that a person travelling by bike, requesting to sit down and have a meal, basic eating utensils should be provided.
Food quality was standard Spur quality, so no fault with the food at all, actually the meat was properly prepared and very delicious.
Come on Spur people, put that slightly more effort into service, do a basic assessment of the client's needs and be one step ahead. It will take you a long way and give many great write-ups in future.
I will be passing through again at some time and should I experience he same service, it for sure will be the very last time I support this specific restaurant.
