Phitsanulok (Thai: พิษณุโลก, pronounced [pʰít.sā.nú.lôːk], also locally known as Pilok) is an important, historic city in lower northern Thailand and is the capital of Phitsanulok Province, which stretches all the way to the Laotian border. Phitsanulok is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, founded over 600 years ago. It is best known as the birthplace of King Naresuan, who freed the country from Burmese domination in the late 16th century, and that of his brother and successor King Ekathosarot (Sanphet III). As the crossroad between the northern and central regions of the country, it has long been important both for political and strategic reasons, and was fought over many times in centuries past. Phitsanulok was the capital of Thailand for 25 years during the reign of King Boromma Trailokanat of Ayutthaya. On the banks of the Nan River, the city was originally a small Khmer outpost known as Song Kwae, before the Khwae Noi River changed its course in the 11th century CE. Phitsanulok was also a provincial center of the Angkorian Empire during the Angkorian period. Phitsanulok is home to Naresuan University and Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University, as well as to a major Royal Thai Army base.

My second visit to Phitsanulok, I discovered Black Canyon Coffee, the super indulgent drinks, and the food here are just incredible! Fantastic Service, good price, and the best food I've ever tasted, wide choice, the fried fish is amazing, and so cheap compared to back at home, and so much fresher tasting, with different choices of coating. I love this place, and can't wait to go back next time I visit Thailand! <3

First: This is the same restaurant as Pat Phufta Thailand on TA, currently no. 26. The correct name is Phae Phu Fa Thai.
We had a lovely meal here, everything we ordered was prepared well. The Hoi Jor, crabmeat roll was especially good. We also enjoyed the Tom Yum Prawns, very tasty and not too spicy. The restaurant is afloat on the Nan river which flows through the centre of town. Service was very good.

This truly was a special dining experience in Thailand. In this small province you get the feel of what life is really like in Thailand. Set on the main canal this floating restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere, great service and very good food. The owner of the restaurant has a wonderful presence as she oversees her staff of young and friendly staff several of whom were able to speak English.
Certainly you want to experience this restaurant after dark as the Chinese lanterns reflecting off the water add to the atmosphere but also because it is outdoor dining, the cooler evening breeze makes the dining experience more enjoyable.
Try the green curry, peanut chicken and the sauteed asparagus. All were excellent. Chang beer goes well with these dishes (no wine on offer).

The tricky-to-find Bai Mai Restaurant is located opposite and down the road a little from the Ayara Grande Palace Hotel in Phitsanulok. It has its own car park from which we were escorted onto an air-conditioned inner room. This dining room, with its heavy dark teak panel walls and furniture and cabinets containing perhaps hundreds of mainly Chinese ornaments and curious light turquoise "bridesmaid fabric" curtains was an experience. The service wasn't up to much but being farangs, with few staff having much English, it was understandable we were ignored for much of the time. Our food was of a very good standard, fair in quantity and fairly priced. My wife and I were on our own in this part of the restaurant for most of the time and we wondered if the place might have had a less stilted atmosphere with a few more people there to give it some life. Nevertheless, for a "different" experience and a decent meal, this is a place to go.

Way over priced, super long waiting time even after seated. The service is very poor. The food isn't bad but isn't special either. I was there because of curiosity, but never again.

They have two locations. This is for the one located in the center of town at the Lithai guesthouse. Pleaseant, very clean comfortable and air conditioned. A nice break from street food. They serve both Thai and some western dishes. There is very little western food available here in Phitsanulok, The western food is tasty, albeit not totaly authentic. The Thai dishes are quite good. English menu. Staff speaks very little English but point at the menu and you'll be OK. Service can be a bit slow. They also have a bakery and everything looks good. They make a unique but tasty slider (look for cheeseburger on the menu). Prices are quite reasonable. Part of the Lithai guesthouse which is a good cheap place to stay.

Krua Restaurant: We do believe in selecting ingredients and recipes. Thus we just don't serve you only food but the best quality as we can.
I have been here many times. Lovely friendly service, great food and reasonable prices. As in any country, it is not easy to find a well run business in Thailand. It requires commitment and diligence. This restaurant is owned and run that way so I always enjoy coming here.

Nice atmosphere and well decorated. It's a industrial feel but still cost. We were looking for aircon and something else than what you eat on the street.
The strawberry yogurt smoothie was amazing, we loved the wedgies and the salad was fine. (Too much dressing and too little "content". 4 crumbs of feta cheese and 3 cherry tomatoes.)
The soup was more cream than veggie, but the taste was great. I can really recommend it if you're up for some more western food but not the touristic type.
The prices are high for what you get, but not high enough to make us feel that we paid too much...
