Find out what European restaurants to try in Philadelphia. One of the most historic cities in America, Philadelphia is an ideal place to spend a weekend - preferably a long one. Be sure to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were signed. Both are part of Independence National Historic Park. Philadelphia also boasts some outstanding art museums, including the Rodin Museum. The Franklin Institute Science Museum is one of many area attractions honoring the life and work of Benjamin Franklin, the city's most famous ambassador. After digesting all of that history, be sure you save room for a classic Philly cheese steak sandwich.

We enjoyed a delicious and filling dinner, and hope to come back in order to sit in the beer hall dining room, which seemed more festive. Our server was pleasant and helpful, although her estimation of how much the sausages weigh was quite incorrect...I think they weight more like 8 ounces each, not four. But we had six varieties and liked them all, especially the one with 7 herbs and the one with lamb. The sauerkraut was excellent, as was the potato salad. Two other folks had veal schnitzel, which also got rave reviews. One had the pepper sauce, which was excellent. The strudel was good. The only downside we felt was the pretzel, which was dense and just not as good as in Germany! And the spaghetti and meatballs ice cream is really not worthwhile. The beer was great of course, as was the selection.

Let's start with the cuisine: excellent. Herring sliders nice, petite, fresh. Porkball appetizer reminiscent of a spherical piece of Philly scrapple, if a bit mushy. The braised/fried chicken thighs were tasty, ample, hot/ fresh, served over delicious, creamy mushroom barley risotto. My wife liked her meatballs with potato-- carrot.Dessert of dark chocolate bark with toffee exquisite. This said, the space is small and crowded, very noisy, so you shout ( not a rug or wall piece or textile of any kind to absorb sound). You will likely have a constant stream of servers or customers walking past your back as you sit, and it's darkly lit, tough to see and discern your dish. On balance, very good food, different, fresh; but they need to invest in more space and interior upgrades to create a more pleasant place -- less work-- to dine.

I was dining alone, travelling for business and was made very welcome.I sat outside and ordered the chef’s menu with matching wines, and it was a supremely enjoyable experience. The waiters knew all about the food and wine and offered attentive but not intrusive service. The food was incredible and so consistently good that I can’t name a highlight.I highly recommend this place, so if you get the chance, do it!

Husband’s cassoulet was excellent my steak frites was ok. The French fries ( I ordered them without the truffles so got basic fries. Over cooked and nothing special. The creamer brûlée had good texture, but too much vanilla. Very attractive restaurant, a bit too loud. Good service.
